Do the hands need to be modified if the pinnion is fixed?

This is something I never understood. There was some huge stink on RWG with one poster that sent his watch to another to have the recessed cannon fixed and came back with still a recessed pin. The guy who "fixed" it said this was due to the hands... very confusing.

Do the hands need to be modified in any way after the cannon has been fixed (by swapping both relevant parts)?

Thanks! So the minute hand has to be grinded a bit (.6 to .45).
