I recall after this rep was released and a few factories started making them there were reports of the crown/tube stripping. I think it was said some factory versions were better at avoiding this than others

i have an ORF and no stripping yet but is it inevitable that it will? Should we just have to accept this might happen with this model?

I think it was reported new crowns and tubes aren’t available and the best thing to do is make the crown a push in type

what has been your experience with your crown/tube? Is the gen the only way to have the screw down feature?

I have a seamaster at from vsf.
The crown problem is also known for this watch (at least back then).
Fortunately, I haven't had any problems with the crown so far (the watch is about 2 years old).
ps. However, I use the crown VERY carefully

Agree, luck of the draw and being careful is always welcomed. I've had a few of the VSF Seamasters and I'm yet to experience this issue. But now I've said it, I'll probably strip one tomorrow 😂

Replica oblivion…
3 x VSF dive watches….. all stripped
2 x Seamster. 1 x planet ocean ultra deep

I am so very careful with all my dive watches. I only screw the crown in after I turn it anticlockwise 1st to ensure there is no cross thread grab and then I very carefully screw the crown in and I NEVER OVERTIGHTEN….

Got me buggrered, the only watches I’ve ever had an issue with is these 3 x VSF reps. I’ve got pagani deign dive watches from Ali express that cost $60.00 and they been screwed and unscrewed countless times. ( time setting ) and no issues …..

I think out of all my reps, I wear this Seamaster perhaps the most often. I’m a little concerned my luck is going to run out but interestingly, the only reps I have with stripped crowns are two Rolexes and they date back to 2006 or so, and it isn’t an issue to get them replaced unlike this model. Maybe I have some time left?

thanks guys for your insights

I'm thinking we need a tool like :

I'm kicking myself because I do have this but lost the attachments long ago

Guess I'm going to have to fetch a practice watch and try things out

That only works for Rolex style crowns with indents inside the tube. The tube screws into the case

For Omega, the tube is pressed into the case. You either need a tool like this

I just found this on AliExpress: 43,79€ | Press Type Watch Crown Tube Removal Tool Machine with 7 Pins Professional Watchmaker Watch Friction Tube Repair Removal Tools

or if you know the tube is dead, just pull it out with a pair of pliers

This is enlightening but now I'm terrified. What's the anti clockwise before tighten method?

You just give it a quarter turn anticlockwise (opposite to tighten) when you press in the crown. This engages the threads safely and minimizes risk of stripping through force when you screw in. You then screw in normally

This. This is a must with anything with screws/threads.

I do this with crowns and even casebacks. It really helps and its always a smooth screw.

I better start doing this regularly. Setting a watch is not something to be rushed Entering a zen state while doing so helps!
