Customs letter (not seizure)

Hey guys/gals,

I received a customs letter asking for a declared value/receipt of sale for a watch a bought from a person in the Netherlands (I’m CONUS). The seller put a value of €30 and labeled it as watch for repair. Now, I read that most folks suggest making a fake receipt and emailing it to customs, but my package tracking shows released from customs and departed regional facility (on USPS mobile app). Should I still create a receipt to send or did they just say f-it and release my watch anyway?

That’s what I was thinking as well, just confused since this is the first time I’ve run into this. Thanks for the reply!

Thanks for the optimism! I’m hoping you’re right.

So strange, to me at least, that it cleared customs but I received a letter anyway. Oh well. As long as the watch makes its way home to me, that’s all that matters.

(I noticed a post last week actually of someone describing a situation just as you’ve experienced. They made no contact in reply to the letter they received querying the value, and the watch showed up very soon after receiving the letter all the same. P I think I read that here on RWI actually. So that’s encouraging too.)

Update 26 October: received the watch today, despite the customs letter I previously mentioned. So strange how that works but I’m not complaining!

Lol well if they wanted, they could just get me at work since I’m technically a government employee!
