Crystal for my DSN 3646--and smudged writing

I made a franken vintage--nothing dramatic, just a black Marina Militaire face on a Deco Bezel 3646. I am wondering if the diameter of DSNs sapphire crystals for the Fiddy is the same as my Deco Bezel. Would it fit? Anyone know whether any other domed crystal would fit this size, if the Fiddy does not? I think it would look very cool!

A second question: when I received the black 3646 Marina Militaire dial from DSN, the writing 'Marina Militaire' is quite smudged. I accepted this as replicating the original (?), but in truth I don't like what appears to be a sloppy application of the white paint. I notice that many of his other faces have very precise lettering. Should the lettering have been crisp and sharp or should I complain? Here's a pic:

from one canuck to another, that writing looks horrible. either try cleaning it off a bit of the residual paint, or send it back for a replacement.

Mate... it looks like someone attempted to mod the dial/watch and did a VERY poor job. Its easy to see he painted the dial (wrong shade of black), poorly wrote something on it, and put the hands back (and damaged them in the process).

Send it back...

But this is some kind of joke right???

Sorry...... no joke. This comes from Davidsen--a while ago. I should have sent it back right away, but didn't and haven't been able to enjoy the watch. I rather naively assumed that all old faces were 'amateurish' in their execution. Which is not to say I liked it. I've bought 4 other watches from him and they have been beautiful. I assumed the problem was with me, not his watch face--because it is soooooo obviously smudged. As for the scratched hands, I'm afraid I must take full responsibility for that. I didn't know about the tape-on-the-hands-when-you-put them-back-on trick. This was my first mod. I'm hoping to be able to polish this out. What do you think? Is it too late to complain. It's been months. I was thinking that if I draw DSN's attention to this thread.....

I'd be shocked if David blew off your request to replace this dial.

I'd suggest that you send him a e-mail right away and work it out.

DSN's vintage dials should be smudged, but not unreadable. I'll have a look at your pics when I leave the office...

THATS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! DSN is legit. I'm very sure he wouldn't sell something like that. If he did, PLEASE PLEASE email him about it. Perhaps I should get DSN to check out this thread and give his 0.02 cents.

OK, I've looked at the pics. That dial is definitely sloppier than most of the pictures of the hand painted vintage dials that I have seen.

I would definitely say contact DSN, but since it has been several months without complaint, I'm not sure what he'll say.

Thanks all! 'Alwayslate', please do get DSN to take a look at this thread--it sounds as if you have some sort of contact with him. I think I'll write him and simply get him to send a replacement with tight lettering. My communication with him in the past has always been excellent and he has always been very good about setting things right--but it has been months without my complaining so it may be unfair of me to ask for a free replacement at this point. Maybe we can go halves on the replacement cost or something. I'm certainly not going to make a big deal out of it, but at least I now know that the lettering is not as it should be.

......now about that crystal. Does anyone know whether DSN has a sapphire domed crystal (like the one in the Fiddy) that would fit my Deco Bezel? I think that would look very very cool.

Yes, the sapphire should fit, I believe. However, I think it will ruin the vintage "feel" of your watch.

I've written to Davidsen and will see what happens. I've suggested we go halfers on a new dial. I hope that's fair........
