Best 112 (sandwich dial)

Guys:

I missed the boat on a nice 112 on one of the other forums. I have resigned myself to the fact that I'd really like a 112 with sandwich dial and the new asian movement with proper bridge, etc (the one a lot of people call "Swiss")

Any ideas as to the best dealer to go to for this? I have looked around at all the dealers listed here and at other rep sites we all go to, and just can't find one I want to pull the trigger on.

The ones I like are called Swiss movements and I am just not 100% convinced that they are true swiss versus Asian copied Swiss with everything I have read at all the boards. I don't care but they charge premium for "swiss"

Any input or thoughts appreciated! Does anyone sell the Asian copy of the swiss with the corect and functioning bridge/swan neck ?

Just out of curisity,

why go for 112 which doesn't have the subdial for second hand and not 111?
I was just curious.

I think Perfect-clones has a nice one. The piece they carry with swan neck is quite pricey (398 USD) but
it sure looks nice.

Joe.

I do like the 111 too, but I have a few Pams with the subdial and really like the simple lines of the 112. I must admit that at first I wasn't sure, but a friend kept talking about how much he liked his, and I saw some of the 112's at different websites, and also all the work making various vintage look pams (w/out subdial) and got the bug!

Hopefully I didnt offend any of our dealers as I did not name anyone specifically, nor did I have anyone in particular in mind. I was speaking in general terms. My commenst on the movements probably being Asian were based on several threads on several rep sites as well as discussing this with some other collectors.

Also, I even think one dealer admitted in a thread it's near impossible to tell the swiss apart from Asian with this latest movement. Hopefully someone will sell me the Asian version, priced accordingly :)

I like the second subdial...like on the 177h I probably wouldn't like it as much if it was just...plain...

guess its a need to see the thing working.

even that top PerClones image is not a Sandwich Dial ... so you just have to shop for the features you want. I have seen this model will all manner of dial choice, caseback and movement options. Best to ask the dealer up front if they can get it as you want it, Both dials are correct depending on the model's year, so there are reps of probably both new and old, and mixtures in between :)

BASE dials are the epitomy of PANERAI design. The subsecond was a later edition and somehow all the designs of it reflect that fact - that is was an add-on or an upgrade, an adaption.

yea sorry, i just like the SS bracelet

I agree with you second point - it's kinda fun. BUT, I have also some to really appreciate the elegant simplicity of the Base models - but if I'm going back to that, then give me the 201A, 202A ... :D They are so pure and unadulterated.

So, I own both styles = depending on inclincation / mood - I'm happy.

BTW, enzo makes a good pt about differing dials - but for a 112 give me 'sammich' every time!

I guess it can take some time to warm up to beauty and simplicity of PAM Base dials, they're often seen and commented upon as poor Marina's cousins, but it's that understated look, boldness and simplicity that makes them attractive to quite a lot of us.

After all, Panerai Base models epitomise the original Panerai diver tool watch. Subsecond dial at '9' o'clock was just a cosmetic 'appendage' added at a later stage simply because it was convenient for them to do since Angelus pocket watch movement allowed for this seamless integration by default.

cheers,
babola

I actually do not need the sub sec dial for recognition purposes, since 99.99% of
people I run into everyday do not even know what Panerai is.

I agree with the comment quoted above. I need to know that the watch is working :)
and when I should wind it again. It's easy to tell with sub dial... look at for a second
to see if it's moving, and if it's not, I give it a wind~ ^^

Joe.
