I might as well get your opinion on this. I was at a gathering of friends. I was talking with someone and said I'm going to get a drink do you want one? Now he got this look of disturbance. I mean visually disturbed. He said no I'm an alcoholic. I;m not supposed to drink anymore. I said dude, what the hell are you talking about. I have known you for years. In all that time I have seen you with a beer in your hand maybe three times. What's going on?
He said that as he was approaching 40 he was becoming mor conscious about heart health and such. And he heard how red wine is good for the heart. So he started having a 10 ounce glass of it every night before going to bed. He also found it helped him wind down and he was able to go to sleep easier so it was an added bonus. But it did tend to make him a little loopy. I did understand. I mean the guy is 150lbs wet. I said are you stepping on the cat or running a carpool afterwards? He said no. Then what is the problem I replied? He said that one day his wife had asked him about something he was supposed to have looked at the night before. He told her that it was after he had his wine so he was a little too drunk to read it. She went off the handle and said that one drink will not have any effect on a human body. If you are getting drunk then you are drinking to excess. And if you are doing that then you are an alchoholic. And I won't stay here and enable an alchoholic. He asked her what she dfined as drunk. She said I don't know, you used the word not me. So he is not allowed to drink anymore unless he wants to lose his wife.
Hypersensitive nutjob, her, and he is becoming one by listening to her! Up here in the "Frozen Tundra" We "KNOW" what alcoholics are. We grow em by the dozen. He is not a alcoholic.
I think that the wife might be looking for a good reason to get rid of him.
Now, after years in the ER, I have to admit that I've thought more than once that we should bring back Prohibition, but no, I don't think he's an alcoholic.
Bingo. That's the same thing I was thinking after reading that story. Some people just can't handle normal amounts of alcohol.
A glass of red wine a day is probably not going to do much for you on the health front. And it is a little weird that the guy was drinking a glass a night after dinner..sometimes perhaps by himself? Maybe he's trying to drown out the nagging wife.
Reminds me of my mother, who loved sitting in a dark room with a bottle of Zinfandel and some completely depressing Streisand music. She only did that from 1976 to 1998, so I'm sure she's fine....of course maybe I just stopped noticing after I moved out.
