Anyone build their own watch from the aliexpress kits?

As the title says, I am wondering if anyone has used the aliexpress kits to build their own replicas. I have seen the submariner kits a few times and had even purchased a 3235 replica to try using on a different project and wondered about putting a replica together myself. I know there's a lot of discussions of this factory had the best bezel but this one did a better rehaut, but this bracelet is truly 1:1 so I was wondering if anyone had pieced together their own; or if it is really possible to source those individual parts.

Posting a link to an aliepress listing for a submariner kit.

Quite a few here have built watches from kits, and many use various AliX parts in their builds.

There's nothing like the challenge and satisfaction of building your own watch, but that option doesn't always appeal to everyone, and if you don't have the tools, skills, and patience to build it yourself, you may have some frustrating problems along the way.

I built a few vintage Omega Constellations and a couple GMTs using AliX kits, since they were super cheap (like $50-100). They're great for the money, although no competition for a better factory built rep. The cost of that particular kit approaches "decent rep from a factory via a TD" territory, so in that specific case, I don't know that I'd jump on the one you linked.

I think you can get that watch in an older Noob rep (the AliX link appears to be Noob parts or at least attempting to pass the watch off as Noob parts, per the clasp protector) for around $250-300ish from a TD, which includes the movement (the kit doesn't seem to include the movement).

This is a link to Trusty, to use just one example, of the same watch, built up with a 2836 movement. Trusty offers some discounts for using specific payment methods, but charges for shipping, so the final cost is probably just a hair more than the AliX kit, or less if you factor in the movement. Other dealers may have it even cheaper, Trusty is just the page I happened to have open at the moment.

Many AliX stores offer an assembly option for a very low cost as well...IIRC, I paid $5 per watch to have the seller assemble a couple I bought...it seemed preferable than risking botching something during the build.

I get what you are saying and ultimately that's what I was thinking as well. I don't mind putting together a watch since I have been building NH35/ETA 2824 watches and repairing/servicing vintage watches for a couple years now, but if I can get someone else to assemble everything perfect for $5, I'd chose that lol. At the end of the day, I was trying to save a couple bucks by maybe doing it myself but seeing as I would really like to build/have a 126610 with a 3235, it would probably work out better to just buy a ready-to-go rep from a TD. I just figured to pose the question here for feedback.

Sometimes the kits are the better way to go. Some sellers offer kits crazy cheap (like the Pie Pan builds a few of us did), and sometimes it's the only way to get exactly what you want.

Personally, I decide case by case...I prefer to build 1016 or 5513 because a home built rep is generally better (and much cheaper) than anything I could get from a TD. With other models, it's hard to build one better and cheaper for what a premade watch goes for.

Another consideration would be resale value...generally, you can recoup a lot of your investment with a factory built watch, especially if it's no longer available. A build from an AliX kit is a lot less certain, depending on what's done to it and who did the work. There's a few builders whose work fetches a nice premium, simply because they've earned a reputation and done some amazing things in the past...Kilwattore, Belkin, etc, to name just a couple.

For someone like me, a "DPD-built Submariner from an AliX kit" isn't going to make me rich, lol. Your mileage, of course, may vary.

For me the sole value of the kits is for vintage models that will get an ageing treatment

Modern models you are better off buying from a TD or even getting a DHGate cheapie if you are on a budget
Yeah, that makes sense. I'm definitely tempted to do a vintage pie pan build and had seen kits on aliexpress.

aaand now i need a link lol. Those vintage pie pan omegas have been something I wanted to buy for a while but $800 for a 50-60 year old watch that you can't find parts for has been a hard pill to swallow.

Just found this amazing item on AliExpress. Check it out!

Mind you. This is 38mm vs 34mm gen
Now, there were Jumbo models at 37mm, so it is quite plausible.

How is the leather strap that comes with it? I had actually come across that listing before and had saved it in my cart but was not sure of the quality.

it has the Omega branding embossed on the underside...but it's not the best "leather"
PM me when you buy, I will send you a link to a slightly better strap with Omega branding...
but if you really like the watch, it's worth putting a good handmade alligator on it.

I build one for me, but the long lugs killed it for me. If you have a wrist >17cm, then it's just an awesome piece. I sold two and the buyers were super happy

This shop (Omega Vintage, and all those 40 or 41mm subs, are also basicly available in all possible versions.
One of the 2 persons behind lot of those shops are "Denise".

here are the tons of watch cases:

the only set I like from them is the constellation. Have not found any other that I fancied.
Any other that you liked ?
