Just got my 111H Swiss w/ the swan's neck. I noticed I've seen a few variances at the connection point around the arm. Like in this picture I posted it's split into two halves.

The one on my Movement is a solid round circle (like a washer). Different generation of Swiss movements?

I have seen the split versions on both Asian and Swiss reps as well on both decorated versions of the Unitas w/ the CDG and Panerai logo finishes.

Here is a pic of the one on mine:

That thing is called incabloc.
It is used as shock absorbing system.

I notice that some of my watches with same ETA2824, hey have different incabloc design. Maybe older version vs. newer version? I don't really care that much

Attention to detail...

Wow...I'm amazed at the attention to detail around here! I would have never notice something like this, but I'm learning!

If too much information is good, another brand that is new to me and showing up in the ETA movements is Novadiac.

WOW  Thank you for the well detailed reply! I'm assuming the split design is a more accurate version that would be used in a gen 111h.

It makes sense that you stated about 50 different designs, because I've seen one on a Asian Unitas that looks just like the Incablock(learned a new word today!) found on a gen Pam.

Does Panerai use different Incablock designs on their different movements or do they use a standard design in the OP XI movement. I've seen mostly a split design.

LOL. No more info OldeCrow, my head is already going to explode with all the new info I've gained the past few weeks.

Thanks again guys

Interesting site Enzo!

I was just going through all my ETA watches here and most of them are the Kif / Novadiac style.

The only ones I have that have the standard INCABLOC are my Hamiltons and my Oris.

I'm guessing the Novadiac is the standard offering from ETA now and that the INCABLOC is an improved option.

I just thought I should mention that the 111h I got from Andrew (asian unitas) has a shock protector on it as well. Shock protection on an Asian??? Fantastic:!: :!: :!: It is possible and it is crazy. I love it. Great product on that. Just my two cents on the whole topic.

Not completely correct, INCABLOC is a brand of SHOCK PROTECTION, [it's probably the most common, so the name is synomous with SHOCK PROTECTION and it's made by PORTESCAP.

But there are probably around 50 different brandings of Shock Protection systems, the majority are SWISS and all of them use their washer's Design as their brand, so if you see a different one, they are meant to look different as they are logos in effect.

The most common one is INCABLOC by numbers alone, KIF is another common one. INCABLOC is a sort of Lyre shaped spring and KIF looks sort of like a clover. Those are the two you have pictured.

All shock protection systems do the same thing and generally, most people won't be able to tell you how it works, but in very brief terms, it's a stack of sprung-suspended jewels made to move WITH the balance staff instead of just holding it.

When torsional shock is transmitted to the hair-like balance staff in a non protect system all the force is taken by the staff, hence it breaks. With shock protect the entire jewel and staff absorb the shock as one whole unit, thus the hair-like diameter in that effect is increased to the diameter of the jewel and thus much stronger and repellent to shocks bangs and whacks.

Simply amazing! enzo is the fountain of knowledge.
I'm learning everyday.
