Why are replicas so overpriced?

I'm with Coldi on not buying a full gold watch. Especially for your first one and even more if $100 - $300 is a lot of money to you. I only say that cause the movement will almost guarantee outlast the gold plating. Don't want to see you super dissapointed in a month... Like everyone said, just read a little and you will find all your answers and be able to make your own educated decision.

stay away from gold plate.

go with stainless steel, and ETA. Have it cared for properly and it will last you as long as anything else. You truly need to "feel" these to fully appreciate. They are quite something to behold.

Side by side i've seen reps with equal to or better quality than that of swiss gens. Invest 2-3 hundred in a nice piece and take it from there. If you dont love it, chances are you can trade it on here, and try something else.

If you owned one, your questions would be answered.

Stay away from gold plating.
A $100 rep will have 21J or quartz movement, mineral crystal, and many other inferior parts. It will not be a good replication of the gen.
A $100 working Daytona does not exist because even the clone movement to run the chronos will cost you close to the $100 without the rest of watch.
You'll understand after you get your first really nice rep.

in all fairness, just try to imagine the overpriced-ness of the gens?

Audemars Piguet Black Themes-$25,000

panerai luminor tourbillon- $100,000

Hysek Colosso- $550,000

Hublot Black Caviar, do I even need to say?

now think, can they actually be worth that?

Hi, G.

Fair question -- and these ARE entertained on this forum; you'll get a lot of good responses from members far more knowledgeable about reps than I am. From personal experience, quality depends upon the dealer -- not necessarily the products themselves, which seem to have greatly improved in quality durning the past few years. Prices do not always determine quality. For example, I purchased a Submariner from GlobalReplica.com for $270, and it was a piece of junk. I spent extra $$ because it looked nice and felt it was worth "saving." I've purchased inexpensive Rolex and Pam watches from G-Watch.com and have received decently built and realistic-looking watches; they're not top shelf, but for me personally, they fit the bill (and I'm on a budget). You can buy inexpensive watches from Robert at Time4Direct.com and receive well-built watches, as I have. You can buy from the members of this forum, where I've purchased several and have had good luck with the people here. In terms of "Why?" That's up to the individual; for me, it's safety -- I have a rep DateJust for the gen DateJust I own -- and believe me, THAT was expensive, which I almost lost at the gym. I bought it for safety reasons. I paid $55 for it, and it's a good match (overall) to my gen. I buy reps for the "thrill" of buying good-looking reps of watches I will NEVER own. (The Rollie was a one-shot deal.) The real cheapies exist, but you're best bet is to go to the Trusted Dealers on the RWI forum. You buy the dealer, not necessarily the watch. Besides, I'm a full-blown rep addict who'd buy them all if I could, and I feel great about it. But then, again, it's personal... .

I don't get it. Why do you all spend upwards of 100s of dollars on fake watches? Don't we all know that they are really worth maybe $50 at most, no matter what it is, i.e. ULTIMATE or 1:1 replica? They are all the same. If you look at some pictures around the web, you will see the insane shipments of replica watches (couldn't find the certain pic that amazed me, but I remember seeing giant spilled over crates of Rolex replicas). Everyone knows that a replica does not last long compared to a real watch, so what is the point of spending so much (no matter what is WRITTEN about the watch on the website). It is to my understanding that all of these replica watches come from the same Chinese factories that use cheap materials. If it is not real, why spend so much money on it?

No offense is meant in the above writings. I need reassurance, I am not saying don't buy reps.
