Hello i am really interested to try to make a 16710 GMT Master II. These are the only cases available or i can go and with cheaper case that needs more work.
My only must is that the case will be able to take the 3185 movement

Mine is being finalized however the viet bezel doesn't take a gen insert as it leaves a space.

Any idea on how to fix this without buying a GEN bezel?

For now it includes GEN dial, hands and crystal. Soon hopefully a GEN insert too!

The pictures above are with Viet insert. I'll install the gen insert for show and post a picture.

Deviations/variations happened often on replica cases and parts. My viet bezel unfortunately doesn't take a GEN insert

I’m not saying yours doesn’t have a deviation or variation, but Thrasher is right… this is the first I’ve seen anything mentioned about this. I’ve had 4 total 16710/60 with the same case everyone appears to be using by the same supplier and they’ve all fit. See below. One thing though… on 3 of the 4 it was VERY tough to get the gen inserts to snap in. It seemed like the bezel was too small. If that’s the issue you’re having then maybe you can send it to someone to try for you instead of getting a new bezel assembly or something.

Don’t want to detract from the bezel issue going on…. However, this post is well overdue. This one hasn’t left my wrist since it showed up, but it’s been changed up a bunch. Just so many options, dare I say too many options…. idk

Specs:
VR3185/6 (w/ gen jump module)

gen dial
gen handset
gen datewheel
gen xstal (AR LEC)
gen 6020 tube
gen 600 crown
gen bezel rings (pepsi, coke)
gen caseback
gen inserts (pepsi, coke, black)
gen 78320 w/ ST endlinks
gen 62510 (50 stamped + 502 endlinks)

ST retaining ring (my gen was pretty worn out…)

Those converting a 16610 sub case to a 16710 are going to be disappointed. The rehaut height is COMPLETELY and NOTICEABLY different.


The build is worth it - I probably went a little overboard but I have “no ragrets” and I’m only building this one once…

On the contrary my bezel is too big, and yes it's from the same supplier. The insert sits too loose.

So here, the question is where could I buy a good aftermarket one ?

The next step up in aluminum inserts from the gen-spec OD of ~37.65mm is 38.0mm, an aluminum insert made to fit a ceramic bezel well.

There are not a lot of these made with the 5 digit font style and enough could not be shaved off the OD to work in even an oversized 5 digit bezel well.

You don’t have to search all the rolexforums. The knowledge is in this thread.

If you want to use the VN case: (hint: it doesn’t use the correct crown/tube for any period 16710… BUT only you, the builder, and those in this thread will know)

I believe the correct crown size for a GEN 16710 case is 603 or 604. However the Viet’ rep case takes a 600 crown with a 6000 or 6020 tube. I found this info online somewhere (so it MUST be 100% true): if a case calls for a 600 crown it uses a 6.0mm type case tube and the case is threaded 3.0mm x .35mm, but if it calls for a 603 crown it uses a 5.3mm type case tube and the case is threaded 2.5mm x .25mm.

My assumption is that the good folks in HCMC were used to making 1675 and 6542 (which uses a 600 crown and a 6000/6020 tube) cases and they just used what they had for a 6mm crown. The incorrect 600 and not the correct 603 or 604. I could be totally wrong in my assumption as to why the slightly incorrect crown was used.
