5513 build Specs

So I’m building a vintage 5513 budget.

I’ve done plenty of reading and built one of these years ago with the mbw case and a gen dial.

This time I’m going budget, so I’ve ordered a cartel 2813, helenrou dial (non vintaged), sternkreuz t19 (x2) and a cheap set of miyota Mercedes hands.

So my questions that I haven’t been able to locate the answers to:

1. Do any of the eta hands fit on the 2813 movement?
2. Best way to ever so slightly age the dial and hands, (im looking for ever so gently off white not yellow! )?
3. 702 crown and tube - athaya is out of stock and charging ridiculous postage costs to Uk, any other options or just stick with the cartel?
4. What’s a decent bezel option?

Answer to question 1: 2824/2836 hands do not fit the 2813.

Any advice on a bezel insert that will fit the cartel and look a little better than stock?

Answers to 2 and 3

2. Not kidding... watercolor paint. Not sure how else you could accomplish off white. Easy cleanup if you make a mistake too

3. I'm in the same boat but honestly, I don't see all the fuss. The stock looks fine on the wrist.

I have been on this journey lately.


Dg hands can be broached to fit a eta but not vice versa. Although the hour hand is the same diameter. Tiger concepts sells decent hands for cheap

Aging dial ever so slightly can be done by reluming the indices and a light coat of matte lacquer spray. Anything more can really get out of hand quickly. Speaking from experience.

Clark's bezel assembly and t19 crystal is a must imo. Nostalgia-2000 on ebay

Athaya is nice but is a nice to have. You can get 703 tube and crown on ebay as well while not period correct, looks better that stock. But requires case work

Speaking of case work, that's the biggest, trickiest part of this project, the cgs are horrible on cartels and the lug shape is not correct. Then you also need better lug holes to fit gen spec spring bars.


Just finished a build today, reshaped case to make a pcg with true gilt dial. No athaya yet

Just waiting for an athaya crown and tube but for now this is where I wanted it. A replica of the Roger Moore 5513.

A good way to age the lume on the hands and dial is weak coffee or strong black tea. Use a paint brush and let it sit on the hands and the lume plots until it dries. It looks great and its cheap too. Look it up on YouTube and you'll find a few videos of people doing it.
