Lot's of threads about 5513 Submariner builds being posted lately, but another one won't do any harm - this after all is an iconic watch.
It took about 6 months to put this build together - including sourcing all the parts. Everything on this build is genuine period correct Rolex - T19 domed crystal, meters first matte dial, MKII serif 4 insert, Rolex 1520 Cal. movement, Rolex 93150 bracelet, period correct tritium Rolex hands - all except for the case.
As always, there were the usual problems with parts being mis-sold - a 1520 movement that arrives without an hour wheel and a screwed up keyless, sellers who can't tell the difference between tube ref' No°s etc.
As can be seen, there is patina on the dial, lume plots, marks & signs of wear on the insert and bracelet etc. It's the only way to put together a watch like this without spending $12,000 or more - accepting parts that aren't in perfect condition.
For me though, this is part of the charm of a vintage watch such as the 5513, it's what gives the watch a soul - scratches on the crystal, the insert, stains on the dial, signs that these parts came from a watch that got used for its intended purpose.
About the case - this is the fruit of a unique collaboration between the Maeng Da Factory in Ho Chi Minh City and DaPhuck metal works in Compton C.A. Made to genuine specifications, it was presented with it's own certificate of authenticity attesting to it's metallurgic integrity - 100% pure 316L steel from Sweden.
Very reassuring to know with certainty the quality of the metal used - such was the quality of this case, it only required some minor reshaping work, with some patina/wear added to bring it into harmony with the genuine parts.
Thanks for looking.
