In case you haven’t noticed, the Rolex 5113 Submariner is the hottest reference in the vintage Rolex collection. Seemingly every vintage specialist, dealer, and IG influencer is fawning over these two-line masterpieces. Some would say it’s precisely that clean dial that makes these so appealing. Others love the simple utility.

The owner of this one happened to have stumbled onto an Air King with a spectacular 1520 movement. Being keen on vintage Submariners, the build ensued.

No expenses spared, JAW case set, dial, and hands. Gen movement. Hand aged insert for that faded denim aesthetic. Crispy, clean case. And a perfect patins dial.

Enjoy!

Hi,
What kind of xtall did you use?

This is a stock JAW crystal - which is: 25-19.

However, if it were my watch I would have replaced with a GS Supplies crystal. The PA 472-67 fits very nicely with a JAW assembly. I do like the PA 462-20A better (slightly more curved edge) but it’s slightly wider which results in a non-functional bezel (unless you sand the crystal down a bit).

I am interested in how you were able to age the hands and dial so well. If you don’t remember I purchased a Cartel 5513 from you and I wanted to age the hands just a touch to match the dial, it’s a tropical look so any help would be am much appreciated!

What exactly is JAW? I'm familiar with the usual cartel and vietnam suppliers but have never heard of that.

Lovely watch! Congrats! Bit of a mix though...

The feet first dial you have was introduced at the end of 1969. 1970 being the first full production year for this dial. Looks like you have a square crown guard case. They were introduced in 1959 for the 5512, only around 200 were produced. Then the pointed crown guards took over.

Great info! I can see how the pics make it look like a square CG’s but they’re actually rounded CG’s.
