Hello, I am thinking of buying a jfk 1680 again. Last time I had one I changed the glass with a Sternkreuz XS 303.430 Cyclop 127 however I had to glue it because it woulnd't lock on the case (too large inside). Can anyone suggest a better option for the jfk 1680 case with correctly aligned cyclop?
Thanks

the Clark 127 should fit the JKF 1680 perfect,

here it's fitted on a JKF 1680 V2

I noted that most of stock 1680 has angled cyclone lens.

The lens in the clarks seems a bit too far right. I read somewhere else that it’s a good choice for eta based watches.

Weird. Mine would install all the way but can easily turn with the bezel if I turn it slightly. It’s def loose but not enough for it to pop off randomly. Maybe I should just add a thicker gasket around the rehaut.

By the way, I love that dial. Did you age it like that? If so, how did you do it?

You should get a set of ST Tudor sub hands. I absolutely love mine. They have a better 3D effect with curved angles and nothing sharp. The stock hands were waaay too flat and the edges were just too sharp.

Super nice dial! How did you age it?

For the glass: try to sand the glass bottom with sanding paper on a flat surface such as a table. I resolved in that way with Sternkreuz: in that way the inner diameter decreases and the glass fit tighter.

The hands on the old reference was flat..

Yea. I know and most of the modern ones are too but with much better finishing. The ST hands have very good finishing. Even the 3135 hands. No sharp edges and rounded points.

Whether it’s period correct or not, it looks good so I prefer it. Plus, it looks flat-ish when you’re looking at it head on. I just think ST makes MUCH better quality hands. Especially for the price. Tudor hands were $8 bucks a set. 3135 hands were $15. Cant beat that and aside from gen or TC (maybe), these are the best ones I’ve seen.

Warning to all battle stations: JFK latest batch 1680 has a superglued stock xtal. It is super strong stuff like hypocement (maybe cryptonite or magic!). The good old press in or adhesive tape times seem to be over. Be sure to cut the lower rim with a razor before pushing it out, or... You have a mess:

Thanks for the heads up. Sometimes it is possible to remove the bezel, and xtal with nothing more than fingers - maybe they realized they could fall apart on the wrist. I'll pry it up with a scalpel blade.

I love those hands, do you have a link? I'm not familiar with ST.

Got mine this week and whilst it looks like someone used glue on it, the plexi on mine came off with the retainer when I pulled the bezel off to adjust the tension. I've ordered a couple of Clark plexis and a thin section 'I' seal to see if I can get some friction. I might consider a few carefully applied turns of PTFE tape around the crystal, trimmed flush with the retainer once pressed if the 'I' seal is too thick. I really don't want to use adhesive if I can avoid it.
