I don’t think I have ever seen a gen Rolex with a silver datewheel. I’ve only seen them on reps but apparently most 1680s 1675s had them until they turned 5 digit. On subs, they were apparently used until 16800s

Silver date wheels were used on 1675's, 1680's, 1665's and 1655's from the late 60's until the early/mid 70's, depending on the model.

I always thought they were brushed steel - now you've planted a seed of doubt . . . They are a very bright/white 'silver' color so maybe they were silver.

tripdog they certainly look like brushed stainless to me. This watch was from 1978 oddly.. which sort of contradicts the limited info out there about them. I thought it looked great though.

I looked at this one with a loupe and went through the numbers. It’s a very interesting texture but does just seem to be brushed steel.

I have held them in my hand, and they are more of a brushed alu color than steel - but they aren't alu. There are big differences in color between different grades of steel, so who knows.

Does anyone make a repro? I’m sure that’s a silly question.

I've heared of polexpete silver DWO's (google will help you find some threads with info in it) , I am not sure if they are still in production.
