Yet another 6542 GMT, this one with the extremely rare 'Red Depth' rating, printed in red obviously, and the GMT MASTER which is a pinky purple color.

Only a few of these were ever produced by Rolex, right at the beginning of the 6542 production run. What's strange is that originally both the depth rating and 'GMT Master' were printed in red, but the second line on the gens faded to pink/purple - but not the first line. Why ? I have no idea.

This dial was specially commissioned for a build - at first the guys in 'Nam said "No, 2 colors in printed text on dial - can't be done", but they did it anyway . . .

Beautiful ! It gets better and better bro.

Maybe your next piece of art will be more 1675'ish. With all that training you are ready for the homerun!

I know about this watch...it's a grail among grails. One cannot buy this sort of stuff from a TD. When I built my 6542 I was split between this or the albino, finally I went with albino. Glws mate.

Unparalleled craftmanship, your knowledge on these vintage pieces are second to none. Great review, extremely informative in regards to the color fading, the 6542 is my favorite Rolex to date.

Thanks !

There's a pic here of a 'Red Depth' rating 6542, with both lines in red - although you can see that the second line is not exactly the same color red as the first line:
