The Ref. 16760 was the first 'GMT Master II'. It was nicknamed 'Fat Lady' or 'Sophia Loren' because of it's thicker case ( 0.5 mm thicker than it's predecessor the 16750 and it's successor the 16700), and it's more generous, curvier lines, it also had new, chunkier crown guards. The 16760 had a relatively short run, only being produced from 1983 until 1988.

It was first GMT with white gold indices borders and a sapphire crystal. The 16760 was only offered in stainless steel with the red/black 'Coke' bezel, which was a new combination. It kept the drilled lugs of previous GMT models, but the winding crown went from 5.3 mm to 6 mm.

With the new calibre 3085 the 24-hour hand became independently adjustable. The seconds hand only stopped when the crown was pulled all the way out, meaning accurate time could be kept while setting the watch (the quick-set date was sacrificed for this exciting feature). Now, since home time and local time could be read simultaneously on the face of the watch, the bezel could be used to calculate a third time zone if needed.

The rotating bezel, while remaining bi-directional, now had a ratcheting action. This particular GMT model had a relatively short run, only being produced from 1983 until 1988.

OMG what a beatiful watch you have built. Congratulation.
Always a pleasure to see your GMT builds.

The 16760 is one of the best GMT they have ever build. Very nice looking watch and also rare cause of the short period of production.
Love these details. Nice work.

Keep it in good condition.

Amazing job as usual! I haven't even been checking this forum since it came back up because I'm still just staring at the beauty you built for me!

I hope you're doing a post for that one soon! (I haven't posted pictures yet so that the first pictures people see are actually good ones haha)

Oh cool. Yeah I had a feeling that's what the case was.

I know that there's no GMT case that is genuine style construction.

Do you know if dealers can still get the EXP II case for a similar build?

Those cases were from the Cartel, I have a feeling they are no longer available, but you could ask Josh/Andrew.

16760 dials all say GMT-MASTER II. This one says GMT-MASTER only, so it's either from a 16700 or a later 16750. The spidering and the 31-minute marker being between the W and I of SWISS rather than aligned with the I or between the I and the S makes it more than likely a 16750 ca. 1986 like this one: https://www.chrono24.com/rolex/gmt-master-spider-dial-1986--id7565882.htm
