Hi everybody,

I just bought a tudor 9401 dial from yodog, with 28xx

I'd like mine to operate as close as the original (low beat an one stem position), what movement would you recommend?
I see that the 2840 may fullfill all my needs but will it fit?

As you have bought a 28xx dial, a 28xx movement will fit... If the the dial has feet of course

For ease of supply and maintenance I would go with a 2824 and a 455 set lever. For originality, you could try and build a 2776 from parts but it’ll be pricey.

Ok i researched a bit and 2840 is a nogo, there is no hole for case clamp and for dial feets in the base plate. Too bad they go for quite cheap on ebay :/

Is there a way to convert a 2824 to low beat?

Have a look at those threads here and here
1st option is to use as much ETA 2840 parts as possible
2nd option is to swap only 3 parts (balance wheel, escape wheel and pallet fork)
both ways you'll get a "low-beat" 2824-2 ... not exactly the 18000 bph of an ETA 2451 (base caliber for the Tudor 2483) but 21600 bph so a little closer than the original 28800 bph you get with a 2824-2.

To convert your movement to a no-date and remove the "date set" position you can swap the original setting bridge with an ETA 2801-2 setting bridge.
I used to buy those setting birdge from watchmaterial here ... they're out of stock for the moment but you can put it on your wishlist and wait until they're on stock again.

de rien ... from France ;)
- 2nd option is really easy if you have some experience
- 1nd option is a bit more tricky as you need to completely dismantle both movements
- swaping setting bridge is just piece of cake
English is the rule here but fell free to PM (in French) if you need some more info ...

Hello,
if you wish to convert a eta 2824 to low beat, you will also need to replace the mainspring. Otherwise you'll have too much amplitude and the balance might "overbank" which will impact the time keeping.

Otherwise, you can go for an eta 2846, but keep in mind those are a bit thicker than the 2824.

Don't they have a different stem eight too?
I'm going try my luck with an asian 2824 plus a 2840 (they go for fairly cheap on ebay) first i think

I have a ETA 2451 movement in my Vietnam build Tudor 7928. It was taken from a cheap mid 1960s watch. They’re more effort to find but worth it with an 18,000bph beat rate.

hasn't the ETA 2451 different dial feet position?

I think the seagull ty2130 (eta 2824 copy) is a nice movement. But it comes with a date complication and is high beat.
