5513 - 1520 Movement Clearance Question

For those of you that have used a Ruby’s case with a gen 1520 movement: how were you able to clamp the movement into the case? I am noticing that when the movement is placed into the case that there is no clearance at all for movement screws.

The movement came with these tiny screws and tabs attached which I have seen in some cases but I’ve also seen the sort of ‘witch hat’ shaped screws. I don’t have any of the witch hat screws but I’ve tried some generic case screws as well as the gen movement screws/tabs and I can’t get it to come close to having enough clearance

Anyone dealt with this and know the workaround? I’ve never worked with any 15xx movements before.

Thanks in advance!

The "witch hat" screws are more.commonly used in my experience and certainly more convenient with a gen movement but you should be able to slide the tiny tabs in place and screw them to the case though, just need to be careful and eventually be sure you are gently pressing down the movement when inserting the tab so you get the needed clearance for the tab to fit in.

You shouldn't be using tabs, you should be using screws with a 'flat' cut on one side of the lip. You tighten down the screw, 'flat' facing outwards, when everything is in place you back the screws out so that they push the movement down into the case - obviously the 'flat' should not be facing outwards.

Having said that all Viet' cases have the same issue - the groove in the case for the screws is not deep enough, you need to remove about 0.2mm from the upper edge of the groove so that the screw lip fits under it.

Thanks for the advice gents! That was always my thought as well was the screws with a flat side so you can imagine my confusion when I opened up the donor watch to find screws with tabs.

I did some research and it does seem that the tabs existed for a period of time; mostly in 5500 Air Kings but I did notice a decent bit of them in 5513s as well. It makes you wonder if any 5513s ever shipped from Rolex this way or if they are restoration watches with donor movement parts from 5500s

I was able to get the movement in with the tabs by cutting out little grooves in the case lip, thanks for the direction on that Trip
