Hi all!

this is a quick pictorial/tutorial about how to make dark lume for your Phantom/Stealth projects. To make dark lume you'll need:

-Luminous pigment (Superluminova, Noctilumina, gx-pigments...)
-Binder / varnish
-Graphite powder
-Mixing cup

If you don't have graphite powder, you can make it yourself;

Just rub a pencil tip back and forth over an emery board (best to work over a scrap piece of paper) until you have a small pile.

Once you have the graphite powder ready, you can start.

1.) put some varnish in the mixing cup

2.) ad a small (very small) amount of the graphite powder

3.) stir it with the binder till you get a dark-Grey body color.

4.) Ad luminous pigment and stir it again during 30 seconds

This is how the dark lume should look now

If you like it darker you can add more graphite powder.

Once your lume is ready, do some test on a white base before starting with the re-lume work.

This is how the dark lume glows compared to a "clean pigment".

This is a quick example of how the lume looks like once it's applied:

These are some samples of a less dark lume (Grey)

graphite powder is sold as a dry lubricant in most hardware shops. often used for lubing locks.

There is a much better solution... using transparent black paint.

I employed it for making the European passaround watch of another forum:

Normal lume

Graphite stops the light..it is not transparent.... results are not satisfactory...

I use rust.
There’s always rust around something in your house. Scrape it off. Grind it to a fine powder or however you need it to be. Mix it in with green/yellow lume. Gives it a nice aged look.

Another way you can do it is keep the rust separately in a different ceramic bowl. Wherever you want the rust to be, mix a little bit in to the other bowl and lume from there. I would use this around the hands.

I would only put a little bit of rust in there though. Mainly because I don’t really like vintage pieces to look completely beat to shit. That’s just me tho. I know some folks like it that way. I just prefer it to look a little aged but kept good maintenance on it, like any (non rich) gen wearer would.
