yes, deliberately taken tt way.. personally, sometimes i feel underexposed shots seem nicer :) i suppose u'r talking about e tattoo shots.?

apart from the firework shot they all look 2-3EV to low !

Surely you must have to many darks in them and when you try to re-expose in editing software you get issues with clipping?

My dad recently passed down the following to me (because he likes buying stuff and not using it much):

Canon EOS 10D (an oldie but a goodie)

Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 macro (good for watches)
Sigma 50mm f/2.8 macro (good for watches as well)
Sigma 15-30mm wide angle
Canon 20-35mm wide angle

Those are the good lenses.

Plus:
Canon 28-80mm, Canon 80-200mm, Sigma 28-300mm, and Canon 75-300mm which are ok but not great.

I plan on selling the 4 lesser lenses plus the nice 20-35 to purchase a Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 and likely a Canon 70-300mm IS for tele range.

Nikon D3100

The cheapest Nikon DSLR now is the D3100. I have a Nikon D80 and a D90 and a D7000 (all three mid-level Nikons) and just received a Nikon D3100 today. So far I am amazed at the quality image the D3100 can produce. As I experiment around with it more I will report on what it can do. So far it seems to me the sensor resolution will be superior to the sensor in the Nikon D80 which is the camera I used to take most of the photos I published in my RWI posts. It seems to me you can take the same quality image now with a camera costing half as much as the ones I have used in the past. So if you are looking for a digital SLR check out that Nikon D3100 before you buy anything.

I use a nikon d300 and manual focus (ai) 35mm f2.8 for my watch shots. Sometimes add extension tubes if I need to get in closer ...

Just sold my Canon 24-70mm F2.8 L (made £350 over what i paid for it!) and my 70-200 F4 IS L as well as my 1.4x extender. With the money i made from that i invested in a few bits and bobs for watchmaking and ordered the Fuji finepix x100 which i took a long time researching. Hopefully will be awesome!

Oooohhh the x100, yeah. If I had the cash I would have got that one. The x10 is nice too. I like it because it does have the optical zoom as the x100 does not.

Well my X100 arrived and my god it's a beauty! I'll do a proper write up when I get back from this work trip (if I have time). It's very different moving from a DSLR back to something that is almost point and shoot. But I think that once I get my preferred settings worked out it will be great.

Went out on Saturday past to try and get used to using it properly and basically forgot everything I had read in the manual and on-line. Everything I shot ended up so bad. Came home and spent a lot of time reading about other folks experiences in using it. I think I've got it optimised now to how I like it all set up, but like anything else, I'm learning a new bit of kit that has so many different options. And moving from a DSLR to this is wierd.

Wow... haven't been here in a while, since I started getting into photography. Any of you guys on digitalrev.com? Anyways I was planning to get this camera as well, but wasn't sure about not being able to change lens and the AF, but if this ever turns up on black friday I'm definitely jumping.

Anyways I'm on the 4/3 system now just got my E-PL1 and saving up for the EM5.

Olympus E-PL1 w/
Panasonic 14mm f2.5
Olympus 45mm f1.8

On a side note... have any of you guys ever used a polarizing filter? Does that detract the glare on the glass?

Oh and some sample pics so far.

I have a circular polariser for my X100 but waiting on a converter coming in the post before I can use it. Fujifilm decided it would be a good idea to put a male thread on the outside of the lens instead of a female thread, so you need a male to female tube to have it facing the correct way.
