Question - the pen nibs on the rep fountain pens are pretty bad.
Has anyone tried to replace the nib with an aftermarket much better quality nib?

There are other replacement nibs - a company named Gillett has them for $15.00.
I have an old MB fountain pen rep which I don't use, I'm going to see if I can pull out the nib, then replace with a better nib.

Sorry I missed your particular post. No, this hasn't been replicated. There are 'ok' reps of the special edition and better ones if you hunt. There were also a few that looked more like this special edition but they had weird mother of pearl inserts. That's what I used as the base for my rep. And from memory, there was one other that had engraved swirls all over it or some other weird crap.
So I was able to pull out the nib and feed from the rep fountain pen.
This is very cool - those of you who say that the nib the rep pen comes with is garbage - you can now "mod" your rep MB pen.
As I mentioned, there's a website called Goulet pen company, they have replacement nibs that are supposed to write much better.
You just have to figure out what size nib you need, they come in different sizes - #5, #6 etc.
Then there is a trick to installing the new nib. Everything has to line up before you push it in.
I may try this, pick up a nicely designed MB fountain pen fro AE and get a better nib for it.

Keen to know how it goes. I have been toying with the idea of grabbing a large number of nibs to trial engraving to make better rep nibs.
Here is the latest addition to my collection. Overall I give this rep top marks. Note the nib ... of course it isn't a patch on the genuine article, but it is a departure from the usual 4810 nibs that all MB FPs seem to get.

One thing that stood out on the Gen of these was the beautiful light green shiny eyes of the snake. It was some sort of precious stone and very very tiny. I wish the rep makers could add that

Yeah ... I thought they were amethyst or something .... but I do recall a pic somewhere with green "eyes" - don't think the gen reissues have these but must check - might need to mod one 
I checked them at Singapore airport and wow the whole pen looked amazing just with the eyes, at least for me.
Also I think the snake is little bit thinner and flatter on the rep compared to the Gen.

Yup you are right but I have a feeling the black one has a matt finish black stone...i could be wrong. But I think the red one wins the game.. Very beautiful
