Birth of a handturned pen

Boss told me that Graman was getting lonesome sitting by himself in the Inkwell, so I thought I'd pop in and contribute a few pics.

After much too long of a hiatus from penturning, I'm slowly getting back into it again, and am enjoying the satisfaction of being productive again. I took a few pictures of the emergence of a budding new pen to show to my six year old nephew, then I thought maybe some of you would enjoy seeing how a handturned pen emerges from the piles of sawdust.

Some of the less photogenic steps are not included, especially those that are difficult to accomplish while one hand is being occupied by a camera.

Actually, I'm sure that my skills are mediocre, and other than the Majestic pen I turned for R2D4 two years ago, everything is on the relatively low budget side, but I'm enjoying myself, and I AM prolific.

You are too kind. Most of the time, I'm just combining leftover scraps.

I do have one pen I made for myself, entirely composed of scrap bits of my favorite hardwoods.

If you decide that you seriously do want more of them, I do sell them to raise money for my real project, which is to donate them to the US armed forces who are overseas. I just sent two hundred of them to soldiers deployed out of Fort Riley, Kansas.

So, if there is a real market for them, send me a PM and I'll post a few for sale (all tagged properly so I don't get dinged by idontknow or Q5?).
