You’ll end up taking guns away from good, decent, responsible, law abiding citizens who would never dream of engaging in terrorist acts, and who will do their duty and turn their guns in, yet the bad guys who wish to engage in nefarious acts will still be able to get whatever weapons they’ll need to perpetrate their atrocities.

Nearer than you think
Apparently a guy chased the terrorist with his own gun, basically protecting others and avoiding any more victims, if more people were armed maybe less people would have died

Guaranteed if more people were armed in that mosque, less people would have died. I carry everywhere just for that reason...

After the 1996 mass shooting in Port Arthur in which 35 people were murdered, the conservative prime minister John Howard introduced restrictive gun laws. We haven’t had a mass shooting like that since. It was the best thing he ever did.

Say this to an anti-gun liberal's face next time you meet one. Then walk away, and spit on the side... 'If guns kill people, I guess pencils misspell words, cars drive drunk, and spoons make people fat"!

Yes, but Kiwis live an outdoor lifestyle, farms, hunting is all part of the DNA, it's ok to restrict certain rifles, but not all guns like Australia. And it was an Aussie that did the deed, not a Kiwi!!! For disclaimer, I am a Kiwi, an ex soldier , and we have always been very careful with firearms in New Zealand.

In my congregation, my church, my people, my followers, that is, it is mandatory to carry a pistol in one hand, and a bible on the other, while attending services. No holsters allowed at all. Those caught by metal detectors to be unarmed, are quickly escorted to the churches paddy wagon and taken to the 'lecture center' to be investigated, photographed, recorded, and published in the local papers as 'non caring individuals' to look out for. That works all the time. ........... it has always been the saying by many a firearm scholar, that "an armed society is a respectful society".

even in a mosque ?

“If you are among the believers and rise to lead the Prayer for them, let a party of them stand with you to worship, keeping their arms. When they have performed their prostration, let them go behind you, and let another party who have not prayed, pray with you, remaining on guard and keeping their arms, for the unbelievers love to see you heedless of your arms and your baggage so that they might swoop upon you in a surprise attack.”

From the Q’uran 4:102. This is out of context and is not standard. That being said, from what I do know, the Q’uran generally supports self-defense and does not condemn carrying arms, even in prayer, when it is deemed necessary.

Ridiculous, the animal that wants to do damage gets their equipment the legal or illegal way. Prohibiting guns isn't going to avoid these attacks, but rather cause more casualties. People won't be able to defend themselves.

Just dont let your guard down. Anytime, any place, with any group of people. Never get affixed to the monkey while the accordion player plays on. Everyone is suspect if he is a stranger to you. Listen to your sixth sense. Think like a dog. ................. Survive.

Yes, if they can't get guns, they will just drive into crowds of people with vans and trucks like they have done already,!!

Im a kiwi and have hunted extensively over the years so im familiar with most firearms including semi autos. We've never had much gun crime in this country until this recent event. Everyone is stunned to be honest and its not the culture here to carry weapons particularly MSSA type guns and in fact pistols and revolvers have always been restricted to collectors / gun club members so they're not common. This guy is Australian and planned his attack for a long time. He did it here because access to MSSAs was relatively easy but next to impossible in Australia which is the reason they are being banned here now. 99% of kiwis wont be bothered by this ban so politically its a popular move.
