Here is a little guide on how to fix a jammed keyless work on your 6497.

There already are many turorials on the internet on how to open the case, remove the dial, ..., so we’ll start once all of this is done.

Here is what you should now be looking at.

Most keyless work issues are caused either because a part is broken, or because the yoke that is supposed to sit in a groove is not sitting there anymore.

The left arrow shows the groove, and the right arrow shows the yoke. As you can see, on this example the lever is out of the groove, and the movement is experiencing a keyless work malfunction.

Start by removing the screw of the setting lever jumper and the setting lever jumper itself.

Be carefull while removing the yoke spring, it tends to jump quite easily. Hold it with a stick while you grab it with your tweezers.

Now you can clearly see the yoke out of its groove.

Remove the yoke.

Push the sliding pinnion back against the winding pinnion.

Now return the movement and unscrew the setting lever screw.

The following part (the setting lever) will fall off. Make sure it’s not damaged, cracked, ....

Then replace the setting lever, hold it with a stick and screw from behind.

Replace the yoke, properly positionned in the grove of the sliding pinion.

Replace the yoke spring. Use your stick to maintain the round part while you install the tips with your tweezers.

Put the setting lever jumper back in place. To be sure it’s correctly positionned, look at the 3 red arrows.

Thanks buddy, little screw holding the stem disengaged, i.e. screwed it a little out too far. Your tutorial helped me out a lot. Cheers!!!
