I’m kind of afraid such “upgrade” would be 904 instead of the actual 316, with its well known jump in price..

I dont know why they would go to 904 when the original is 316 ( I could be wrong as usual) . Changes could be the VR as stated and maybe lug holes.

I believe they started changing over to the 904L Steel in the mid 90's.

First use of 904L on professional models at Rolex was in 1987 with the ref. 168000 ;)

They then started using 904L on every model since 14060M, iirc. Someone may further chime in on this

Yup! First ones were the 16800's and then 16610's started in the 90's

168000 (it was not mispelled although it may seem ahah) where the additional “0” in the ref number was indicating the use of this new hypoallergenic alloy

What factory among the big ones do you think would excell in reproducing this model today?

I dont believe JF will give up on this sought after model in the first place but I can see AR or even ZZF make it in the future.

Did you knew JF is ARF :p

If ZZF would give it a try, that would be awesome!

I dont mind if it stays 316L.

what MOQ do you think a BIG factory would accept to produce the 16610LN in case we want to have a petition here through a trusted dealer. of course this order will be made according to our specs and within a budget we define.

Yes to the VR movement. Will buy.

Who cares about 904? Makes zero difference to the watch and a big difference to the price.

In for the group buy. My preference has changed so I’ll probably shed many of my maxi case watches in M2M - they all look fat.

Is 904 more resistant to scratches than 316?

What about the bracelet and buckle of the JF? How is it rated? I wont ask about the SH we all kniw its crap.
puretime confirmed me that JF 16610ln is still avaikable.

The 904L steel has a higher Rockwell score (for hardness) and is able to have a higher polish and resist scratching more.
This clasp would probably have to still be 316 as the 5 digits were stamped and then folded into shape, not sure you can do that with 904L (but I am guessing) as the modern ones are milled.
I'd be more interested in just the head as something like this would merit frankening and putting a Gen bracelet on it. Just my thinking.

Without quoting a load of articles, simply using 904 does not make it the same as a real Rolex, there's a lot more to making a Rolex case than the raw material.

100% Agree - but I'd prefer it as it would be a base for something to build upon.

Meanwhile, here is my last JF 16610 based project.
They CAN’T stop producing them, I have to make so many of these!
