Between arf and vrf which is the better case?

Inviato dal mio SM-N960F utilizzando Tapatalk

They are both great cases. It is all up to taste. Externally they look very similar. I don't know why someone is saying the VRF doesn't take a real bezel or crystal with out modification. That is simply not true. I installed a real crystal and I used the ARF bezel assembly because it is really almost identical to a real one. I replace the insert with a real insert.

The ARF bezel takes the insert as a real bezel would. It is held in by compression where the VRF is glued/taped in.

As far as hands. They fit the ARF movement. My problem was that the real hour hand slid down too much. It looked like it was raised enough, but when I clicked the hour hand to test it, it was connecting the dial and touched it causing a scratch. I repressed it lighter and it was fine. So if you have an ARF movement just be mindful with that. I haven't installed the VRF yet so I can't testify to that movement and real rolex hands.

I think you made some mistake in the post above.

I guess you mean you like the VR3185 more than the ARF 3186.

So you used the ARF 3186 now instead of the 3185 movement?

Im still unsure which movement to use. Would take the ARF but there are 2 different gen hour springs (which is correct for ARF?)

And does the VR3185 take now gen hands or not? Why you didn’t take it then if it’s more reliable ?

occb2 As usual, thank you for your updates on the ARF vs VRF, much appreciated. But as mentioned, it's a little confusing at times as you seem to mix up the reps. So perhaps stick to A and V like you did for one of your prev posts? Haha..

Thanks again!

Thanks Rob.

As far as I understood he’s all the time talking about the VRF movement.
This was the one which caused some scratches, this does also accept gen hands (ARF as well) and this was the one which he was using inside the VRF case as he likes the 3185 more than 3186.

Hope that’s correct :)

And guys, please let me clarify something as there seem some confusions:

Gen hands will fit the VR3185 without any modifications!!!!

The reason why rob scratched the dial was explained many times on previous pages.
This was caused because there is no hand/pinion stop on the VR3185. Thus, if you push them too much, they will touch the dial. You need to press them very careful and stop at the right height.

But much more important is: THIS IS GEN LIKE!! Even a gen 3185 did not had this pinion/hand stop mechanisms. Means, the same could have happened to a gen 3185 and nothing you should be worried about. I think the 3185 is a great and reliable movement and I ordered one. Once it’s here, I will complete my Franken baby:

VR case
VR3185
Gen assembly + insert
Gen dial
Gen hands
Gen green 3186 date disc (hope it will fit)
Gen crown (just because I had it)
Gen tube (if it will fit)
Gen green Everest strap
ARF clasp
Prof black whole crystal

Rob: if you have a recommendation for what parts need to be replaced on a VR 3185 movement this would be grateful.

occb2 Guys I'd like to make a recommendation here. Since there is a lot of confusion over what to call these movements, can we as a forum agree on a naming convention?

Since the VRF movement has the 3185 jumping hour click spring (JHCS), and it's based on the VR3135, what makes the most sense to me is to call it the VR3185. That reinforces those aspects of it and instantly ID's it as the VRF. TDs are now calling the VRF movement the SA3186, which would really be the only other logical choice as it is engraved 3186.

The ARF movement is based on the SH3186, has the 3186 JHCS, is called that by TDs, and is engraved 3186. So it makes sense to call the ARF movement the SH3186.

So what do you think?

ARF = SH3186
VRF = VR3185

Sound good?

Or,

ARF = SH3186
VRF = SA3186

Let's pick one and stick to it!

Sorry guys for the confusion. It was very early and I was tired. Lol.

Here is the click spring that ARF used. I’m going to replace the whole thing. Not just the spring. Teeth look bad also.

First impression are good regarding the case, SEL, dial, DW and crown. However, the bezel operates pretty poorly, the band isn't tip top and the crystal is bad - all of these are easy changes so I'm a happy customer !

Does the ARF band fits the VR's case?

Lol, in my head this was already clear and I think I called it already like this but you are completely right to mention.
Definitely this one:

ARF = SH3186
VRF = VR3185

Everything else is misleading and I don’t know why our Chinese friends call them SA3186. SA stands for „unreliable“ Noob movements (IMO).

Nice man. And exactly what I experienced. An oil bath is good for the bracelet to make it at least more smooth. Bezel turn is a no go and it needs to be replaced. Crystal should be replaced as well.

You have to change the jumping hour module
3185-660
With the rep part the 24hour hand is going all over the dial
Or just did in my case

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Do you mean 24hour hand is sometime fast and some times on point when point at the hour markers. For example when my watch is at 10:00 the hour hand is perfect but when it’s 12:00 the hour hand seems to be 5 minutes a fast. Will changing the 3185-660 part fix this?

Yeah, SA is Super Asian and not just Noob but BP and others too. And s clear sign of a poor movement, like you said. So let's not slander our new Megaclone this way!
