Here are some magnified photos of my SH3185 scrap movement.

From the looks of it, the Kif spring is different from the one you order. The end opposite the “fork” (we’ll call it the top) seems to bend OUT, not IN like the replacement you ordered... it also appears like the “forked” end also has tips that bend out to lock it in place

And this is the moment I realize you’re working on a VR movement.... I can take the caseback off my ARF in the morning (swapped to VR like yourself) if verification of the type of kif spring used is still needed then. Unfortunately I’m too comfy in bed to get up right now.

Are you saying there are no slots under KIF spring retention walls on the shock absorber block for the KIF spring arms to be anchored in?

If that is true, that part of the balance assembly would need to be replaced, which would be an advanced repair. It would be easier to just replace the balance assembly. You could try the SH balance.

Does yours look like the VR pic? The slots for the KIF spring arms are easily visible at the right angle.

Based on the picture KJ2020 shares it appears the slots are located midway between the top and bottom of the KIF spring retention walls. Perhaps you’re applying a little too much pressure during insertion process - bypassing the slots - and pushing the spring to the bottom of the block.

So what KIF spring should I order for the SH3186. I had to take the spring off the SH to get the hole-jewel and cap jewel to use on the VR and now I need a new KIF spring for it. I know it's not the same as the 3-3 the VR uses.

I haven't seen that one available separately bro. You may have to buy a dead SH3135/85 to scavenge it or the whole balance assembly.
