So, I am fortunate enough to have some cash to spend on a gen. I currently daily an ARF 116500, but I have a couple of gens for fancier occasions.

Overall I am a big fan of the Daytona, it is my true love, but as everybody knows what is going on with the pricing so can't really go gen. I am also a big fan of the GMT-C, and think it would be a nice daily. Here are a couple options I have.

1) Pick up a nice condition gen GMT-C with black bezel. It has box, but no warranty card however it was serviced at RSC and has the paperwork/card that is included. Cost is about $9500, Maybe I can get him down to 9k? I am also on the list at my AD for a BLNR or BLRO, whichever comes first I can sell the LN quickly to buy that.

2) Buy a SS 116520 for about $16k- not a great option as I would have to sell one of my gens.

3) I can buy a used 116523 (Two Tone Daytona) and franken it! Sell the bracelet, crown, pushers, dial, bezel and replace them with gen parts (except bracelet, I feel the ARF can do the job)

What would you guys do?? My gut is telling me get the GMT-LN, and someday upgrade to the newer models via my AD.... however I do have my obsession with the Daytona!

Have the rep Daytona already :)

is 9500 a good price for the GMT-LN?

i know values are crazy now, but being a discontinued model I think it would be OK??

I'd buy a Gen skydweller. I'd rather buy a Gen that I can't franken.

I tend to go with Nivka , Tucker , and Mech . Being discontinued, it will eventually be a classic. However, if you can hold out, and if it's an option (though it is not in your givens) go for a gen that's difficult to rep.

Thanks all, might go ahead with the GMT-C if the seller actually gets back to me! Just hoping the price at least stays stable, as I am paying about 1k over what the MSRP was. I wish I bought a year ago, they were selling in the $6-7k range all day long... hell even got a BLNR offered to me in December for $9500....

No matter how sexy a Franken it’s still a REP without a paper trail. Between the two go GEN. Resell market is wider too.

I started this hobby with GEN Omegas. For me now REPs are sufficient all day long.

I say get the GMT LN. It sounds kinda crazy to have a gen as a donor watch for a franken. Why spend money on a watch youre not in love with.

I'd buy the one that I most desired. If I am short, then I save up for it.
For your reference, a business associate picked up a gently used GMTII (116710LN) last week, full set. He paid $11K. I guess that is the market price.

Wow so I might be ahead of the game! Just missing the warranty card, but I have the RSC Card.

Small twist, a beautiful BLNR popped up via dealer, they are willing to sell for $13.5k (oyster bracelet, box/papers) I might be inclined to go with that!

In the current scenario, like everyone saying, go for GEN GMT LN...it can only go higher than 9K for sure. Worst case, it will retain its $9K.
You can save up and later go for Daytona or with that upgrade money easily you can go for Franken Noob 116520 (Hands, Dial, Bezel) for around $2.5K. Still you'll have $3.5K in your pocket with a discontinued Gen Rolex and an almost Gen, super satisfactory Franken Daytona.

Go Gen GMT - In UK I paid £4.5K Brand New for the one in my profile pic in 2017 - You can't go wrong now it's discontinued
