Will diamond paste leave swirls on my gen sapphire?

Hi,

I have some light speckling on my gen sapphire and I think it’s from using a diamond file too close to it (I guess small particles were jumping out on to it and stayed there and when I used a caliper and put pressure they scratched it). I understand diamond paste may be a way to buff out scratches but I wanted to ask those with experience how it’s done so that the buffing is uniform (read: invisible). Or if it is possible to do at all.

Thanks so much!

So will the diamond paste get the speckles out? They only show in warm light at a certain angle.

Will the sapphire distort if I take too much material off?

Thanks again!!

Diamond paste correctly used will not harm the crystal, you just work down thu the grades and finish up with the finest.
Same process as buffing a car except both the surface and the compounds are a lot harder.
