Hello,

What do you guys think what look should I go for ? I have gen insert and could try to replicate the fushia/pink same as my rep insert but before I do I would like to ask what you guys think looks better.

Here are comparison pics:

(rep insert is placed on top of the gen that why it sticks out dont mind that)

I kind of like the vivid color of gen insert:p ... but I know it's more desirable to have faded insert ( much higher prices )

No way I would try to artificially age a gen insert. You can do that with a rep insert. Age the blue side too, it looks much more natural.

You mean you wouldn't want to destroy it ?

I wouldn't want to alter it. They are too valuable. You can buy or make aged inserts easily enough, why devalue a gen unnecessarily?

Artificially aged inserts would be identifiable by looking at the backside, which would be altered looking as well. Naturally aged ones would still have a mostly new looking appearance on the backside.

I can make one that's only the front aged and back is not touched. Its different method than submerging the insert in the bleach.

I think there is no real way to see if its artificially made if done correctly, maybe I'm wrong...

I know this wasn't your original question, but if you can make one the way you want it, why not just use a rep insert? You might want to sell the gen or change your mind later and just swap out your faded rep insert for the new looking gen. I just don't see any justification for intentionally altering a gen insert in great shape. It's not going to look better than an altered rep insert would. As to value, a gen faded insert would be worth more to some people than NOS, but I think someone could tell if they knew what to look for.

I like the red more than the fuchsia, it is just bolder and balances the brightness of the blue better.

I know but I cant stand the rep numbers. There is always something wrong.

Those "2" on the black rep looks bad.

Haha, yeah there's always that. I think there's always one out there that will work though.

BTW both those gen inserts are 30 years old so there's nothing that says an old watch has to have a faded insert!

I kind of like the fushia one ...

It's a novelty look that I like much more with a corresponding nice faded blue.

IDK that I would want it as my only permanent insert though.
