Jonj480 Yeah, the master has spoken!
thanks for the input, i will definately buy some polinium. The thing with my grinder it has only 1 speed as its a cheapie lol. Its running @2950rpm. But noted, i will use green dialux and then a polinium. For the clasp above i barely touch the wheel as it scartches the clasp if i put more pressure on it.
And btw, would a foredom do the job? It is smaller and cleaner than having a grinder. My room was a mess after doing the polishing lol.

Honestly I would get a good variable speed Dremel with a flexi shaft and the keyless chuck. Most of the decent ones are viariable speed and with the flexi shaft it helps to be able to do detail work. You can get felt buffs and cotton wheels cheap on amazon, like $5 for 100. Just throw em out after you use them and you will always get clean results. If you will be doing much polishing and brushing, you will need a good ultrasonic cleaner too, or your wrist will turn black from all the metal dust in there after you polish it... lol.

Jonj480 Yeah will try with a dremel too. For home use. And yes i will need an ultrasonic cleaner. Those metal dust + compound is nasty. They stick like a glue. Thanks for the info

And for the brushed finish:
My first time doing it, let me know what u think? Are the brushing too rough?

Looks just a tad stronger than gen. Very nicely done though! This is a Noob V8 316L (right) and V9 904L (left). I can't see any difference so I won't pay extra for 904L. Could be that Noob is just bait switching too. These were just hand brushed with scotch brite.

KJ2020 I thought the density of the 904 is harder and color is whiter. The bracelet I brushed is 316L too. I should have brushed it lighter i guess (less pressure). I used 3M 7447. Im waiting for my bergeon to come. I cant wait to try it! LOL.

For the brushed part on the daytona, what do u suggest i use? If u see the video below, his brushing shines so bright. Im guessing he’s using wet sanding, but i dont know which grit he used.
Here’s the video:

I would have to ask the master of polishing here LOL.Jonj480

904L is supposed to be whiter, a lot of us just aren't seeing it in the reps we're getting. Which raises the question...

There is a difference. Even the Chinese 904L is much harder than 316. It is really noticeable when you polish, brush or grind on it. True, you can make 316 look very very close, but the finish wont last nearly as long, and will scratch and dent much easier.

Jonj480 Yeah, i realized that too when brushing my daytona bracelet. But those PCL are magnet to scratches, they are very sensitive. I havent even worn mine and it started to show some light scratches already LOL

I do them basically the same way. For the brushed areas I’d use a Bergeon Fine block. You can use a medium as well as long as its a little worn out, lol. To remove major scratches, I’d tape off the center, and use a dremel satin finishing buff, then use the block

If you need to use paper, I’d probably start at 1000 grit

Cannot belive that 904 should be „much harder“. The datasheets don‘t confirm this. Hardness is nearly identical depending on the batch of steel.
But this has been dicussed to death. In rep an gen forums.
From my experience working with rep 904L and many sorts of 316L I cannot feel and see any differences.

But what I can see is that a gen Breitling is polished and brushed so well that‘s really more whitish and shiny. More the rep 904L. And Breitlings are made of 316L. Same for Seikos Marinemaster MM300.

Stupid question alert: how do you use the polishing wheel? I assume it goes in a regular electric drill? Then what? Somehow clamp the drill horizontally on a bench and hold the bracelet in your hands as you touch it to the vertically spinning polishing wheel?

You can do that although there are more 'elegant' solutions, a bench buffer for example. I use a dremel tool held in a vise and with felt discs.

Quite an interesting video, skip to 10:40 to see how a pro does it

Wow, that is a good video!!!! Beautifully done, both the ring and the video. Thanks for sharing!

That's guy makes me feel like a complete wanker though. I was marvelling at his skills, thinking to myself how I've wasted my life - and then he wheels himself off in his wheelchair. Which (probably shouldn't, but) somehow makes me feel like I'm even bigger loser!!!

I was hoping he was at least a balding SOB like me, but then he takes off his beanie and he's got AMAZING hair. And he's handsome.

My life is shit.

LOLOLOLOL! Yeah thats what a web grinder does on polishing. U should try bro. Once u watch many videos + a bench grinder, polishing can become quite an addiction. And would want to try a bunch of tools lol. At least it is for me. :)

Smpfan yeah, i just found out when i was brushing my TC bracelet and my daytona which has the 904L. Light pressure on the TC you can immediately see the brushing, while on the daytona i did medium pressure. And yes the 904L is whiter than the 316L. The difference is seeable.
But maybe im wrong too, if they have tested in the labs for the density between the two steels, but for me i feel that 904L is more dense IMO.

Finally something great and easy to follow on my posted question regarding brushing polishing. Getting into this first time as most of my reps ive never got the polished since purchase.
Looking to polish the center links on Batman bracelet and case side miror shine/polish.

So far ive ordered cape cod cloth and scotch brite as they were cheap. Also thinking to get a dremel tool from amazon any suggestions which ones- not way too expensive as im just newly starting.
Also can anyone link me the 3M sheet they talk about im looking at amazon and seeing like vinyl sheets.
