The insert looks good, but the pip looks awful- screams rep from a distance.

The pip is better as you can see on the pics. It is stepped like gen and has got a clear cap made from plastic I guess. If you inspect it closer you can see a lense effect. Blue glowing lume. I like it more than stock VRF pip.

Considering bezel removing: It is a bit different... The bezel has got a click and 3 balls like gen has. Crystal is fitted like gen and interchangeable. But you cannot disassemble the bezel alone. If you try this you will break the insert and the crystal will come out at the same time!

Be sure you will absolutely use a 4 clamp bezel removal tool and you‘re safe! This is mandatory. The crystal assy comes out while removing the bezel.

For assembly do following steps:
1) Mount the movement into the case
2) Line up the rehaut crown and dial
3) Mount the crystal with its seal to the case
4) Put in click and balls/springs
5) Orientate the cyclops correctly
6) Put the white delrin ring into the bezel groove and put the bezel to the case
7) Press the retainer ring onto the seal
8) Glue in the insert

For pressing down the reatainer ring I recommend a custom made die with inner diameter of 30.0mm.

Bought it for 18€ at Ali.
Will try to take a better pic of the pip, too.

Unfortunately the pip is very bad, its almost yellow/cream in person (photos don't show this).

I received my insert (the same one in this post) a few days ago and laughed at how bad the pip. The insert also came cracked so its just going in the trash.

Not worth purchasing.

Here is the pip.

Thanks a lot for the detailed info Andi. I have a bezel remover, just a little worried about doing a TT the first time. Do you tape off the case or just let it go metal to metal? I usually tape the case but the extra thickness of the tape pushes the removal tool teeth up slightly, sometimes enough to put a little nick in the underside of the bezel. I always sand these out, but a gold bezel is another story.

I tape of the lugs with self adhesive 3M copper metal foil. It‘s about 0.05mm thick.
Didn’t do this on gold until now. I‘ve got only SS watches.

It looks OK. We torture ourselves with Hulk inserts, which all look fake ultimately. Aftermarkets are almost always exactly the same color as rep inserts with shallow white markers. Yours does not look appreciably different than any others I've seen or tried.

Gen bezel and insert (listed on RG for $2200 a while back)

Aftermarket insert is the one with the pearl. Rep insert is BP after a paint mod.

Actually to be honest,I’m looking for a reasonable alternative beside spongebob PPM which is costly and sharpie/molotow mod which fades easily away. Here are some shots of the markers. They aren’t really white.

No they are not white. Mine are silverish too. IMOP this aftermarket insert is not bad at all. It‘s a tad thinner than my stock VRF insert. But under a loupe the paint in the engravings is much cleaner and more even than VRF‘s. Ceramic color is nearly the same like VRF. Maybe a bit lighter.

Oh yeah I remember now, this one has silver markers. It does have that going for it.

I might give the technique I used on my Batman a try on a Hulk aftermarket. You can look at it here if interested. The Batman insert was an aftermarket, with shallow markers. I dug all the paint out of them with a needle point sharpened mini screwdriver blade in a pin vise. Somewhat tedious, but it left me with reasonably deep bare ceramic to start over.

Yes it does. Great work.
But I have to say this Hulk aftermarket insert does not have too shallow markers. They are equal to VRF.

does the gen dial never produce these subtle reflections, because all reps with colored dials do this defect in the sun?

The sunburst effect on the gen is a lot more uniform and subtle. Whereas for the rep dials, it almost looks like a laser show when the light hits.

Ordered the one from the Ebay link I shared above. The numbers are white, not grey / silver. Trying the sharpie mod if it makes it usable, otherwise I'll clean, post a pic here and sell it at a discount!!

Sharpie / Molotow mod pretty much doomed to failure on aftermarkets unless you remove the white paint first. The silver won't adhere well or last long. The white paint is highly resistant to attempted chemical dissolving, even acetone or thinner usually wont budge it. Needs to be dug out with a sharp metal point.
