My friend, I remember well your love for the 5513 and the riveted bracelets! For me the 5513 is the quintessential Rolex tool watch, beautifully purposeful, where everything has a form that follows function and makes no concessions just for fashion. The 5513 is like an old Porsche 911, manual box, no aircon, no power brakes or steering and manual window winders… As some of the legendary machines of the past, this Rolex is an icon, much imitated but never equalled.

My 5513 build was the very first I did, and took a lot of time Reading and learning here at RWI and surfing the net and m2m for the parts. Today is in my wrist with much proud, and still I cannot stop smiling after a casual glance at her. Here at almost 7pm Mexico central time today...

Beautiful!

I actually passed on a brand new 116610 because I already had this...no need for a 6-digit once you have one of these.

I have to agree. I even let my 114060 go as I did not need it as I had this. I like the LVs so I have a 5 and 6 digit but and a few nice fakes in ceramic but 5513 is the ultimate in my humble opinion. Often considered going Gen but then I got this franken from tripdog and I never looked back.

LOL, this is my stubby crown guard beater- I trimmed the insides and outside of the cgs, drilled the lugholes and installed a gen 702 crown and tube. It's got the DG2813 in there and it's doing fine. This is the watch that I wear to mow the yard with. I could get a better cartel case with better cgs, maybe swap in a 2846-2, but what the heck.

That's a great watch. I think the current Rolex sub has gone too far towards being almost a fashion accessory, rather than what it was originally designed for, to be the quintessential diving "tool watch".

That is an outstanding build (with what looks like more than a few gen parts). I love the transition tritium dials, especially with a touch of patina.

The 5513/14060 are my two favorite Rolex models but lately I'm leaning more heavily toward the 5513. Here's mine with a gen luminova service dial (dial feet intact) installed on a modded/drilled 2836 movement with gen 704 crown and gen Tudor hands.

Thank you and thank tripdog I only have two frankens now, this and a 16803. They are the only two Rolex I considered worth going all out on.

Most of them are modded or Frankens, but I would start with asking Sead to get you a Cartel/JKF 5513.
Go for the 21j or the clone movement?

Depends if you want to swap the dial. The low beat 2813 is closer in BPM than the Clone but if you want to put something like a Yuki dial on it, they are made for ETA movements so you do not have to cut the dial feet. However there is a $100 price difference.

I have a low beat ETA in mine.

Are they good enough out of the box? Not rly afraid of being called out but ain't that happy for wearing canalstreet looker.... The clone mvmnt is, if it's good enough
