Hello,

I've been thinking about building a 1601 franken with a gen rolex datejust case, so I'd like to know if it is possible to put a 2824 into a gen datejust case.

Any clue?

EDIT: Not sure if it i 1601 or 1603 but just ike this new picture with that bezel.

occb2 tripdog Beyond my pay grade. There are also issues with the hands fitting that movement.

The 2824 will fit, a couple of things need to be done. You need a movement ring for the 1601 case and you also need to get a h4 cannon pinion if you use a stick dial. You also need a date wheel overlay to get the date to show in the window. Rolex has a different date wheel then eta

Any reason why you'd like a 2824 in a gen case? Maybe we could recommend something for a tenth of the work required?

No reason at all, I am all ears, what would you recommend?

Don't think a 2824 will work. My 16030 I just finished uses a Selita SW 220...so a 2836 is the ETA equivalent.

All GEN with Selita and Tudor hands...

I see, so you used a gen movement ring and the tudor hands fits on the movement without any mods?

Was there any difficult parts in the modding or everything fitted just right in place?

Here is one I built. All gen but he movement. I used a ETA 2824. You can use raffles movement ring to secure the movement to the gen case and extended post hands so you don’t have to do the H4 mod.

That's pretty nice! Did you get the extended post hands from raffles too?

How much did you spend?

Yes on the Raffles. Interesting how we used different movements and they both worked. I know I tried to put a 2836 in a JMB Explorer case and it did not...stem torque...

I think the stem height is marginal between the two movements. I was recommended to use the 2824 as they have similar heights as the gen movement. 2836 is nicer due to the quick change on the date.

Great work guys. Pelagic that is a beauty. What was the cost in the end? Love the look for a nice summer watch. I have a date just that I have been collecting parts for. It is just a fantasy watch. Rolex would never make it. I had the case PCV'ed black and have a 18K linen dial and a 18K bezel, real crystal and 18k crown and hands. Got a nice date disk too for a 3035. So I have just been lazy on building it. Now the crystal ring you linked too, that is the one for a 2824? I thought I was going too be able too use the TC movement holder. Its too big for a real rolex case. If I could just throw one of raffles in there and put in a 2824 instead of the 3035 it would be great.

bobandshawn Also post a pic of yours if you can. Would love too see it. Did you use a real caee? Which movement ring did you use?

Thanks Rob. I’m in it at about 1k. Picked up the gen mid Case, case back, and crown from stonep. Gen bracelet was from trf was a little rough so re brushed and polished it. 18k bezel from eBay. Clark’s crystal.

Knowing you figured you would go all gen with the 3035 lol.

On raffles site think they have the rings labeled for the specific movements.

Riyi002 on eBay has the open 6&9 DWO if you’re looking as well.

Thanks brother. I have been holding out for a 3035. But it is a watch I won't wear a lot. I love my subs. The look I am going for is a nice black watch with 18K gold contrast. So I could wear it with a suit or dress up. I have all my subs with work well like the 16613LN. But I think on the times that this date just will look great. So that is why I want it in black and got it PVD'ed.

I will snatch up a open 6 and 9 layover on ebay from that guy thanks.

Sorry for hijacking the post but ive just ordered clarks hands, is there going to be a problem with the cannon pinion height?

On a stick dial yes, you'll have to set the hour hand tilting up slightly to clear the indices.
