Open 6 and 9, what does it mean?

When discussing the GMT Master 1675, there is frequent mention of open 6 and 9. I am not entirely clear what that is referencing. When I look at the watches I am not seeing a difference.

Can someone post pictures of watches in the two conditions so I can see what people are talking about?

Open 6 and 9's flat 4's, flat top 3's, all part of the vintage date font on Rolex's up to about 1990ish

Yes. I heavily prefer the open 6 and 9. On some of the better TD sites you can search "open 6" and it will show you the watches that may have it. Otherwise, you have to get lucky since I see a lot of dealers will use the same date like 28 and you have no idea. @_@
