I don’t care what anyone else says but that black dial sure does pop. Fat or no fat sub-dials, it certainly doesn’t look wrong from an overall balance perspective imo....sub dials look lit! Quite stunning if you ask me

yes, in fact the sub-dials are on and have the right rays of light. just a pity that for me they are really too fat. I don't make a like gen problem out of it, as much as a matter of eye discomfort. they fill the dial too much. too predominant

Were the warmer subdials of the black 116520 only on a certain year range? Or were they present during the entire production run? Can we expect the CF 116520 to have the warmer hue on the subdials? The subdials in the CF 116520 pictures on JTime look the same as the 116500 to me.

I have a 2014 Chromalight Gen 116520 black dial. The subdials are shiny silver. No champage tone or warm hues. ARF V2 dial is very close in color but has slightly thicker subdials.
As far as I know the earlier dials in the first production years had the more champagne colored subdials. Later on they switched to the more silver ones.

Yes, all the first batch subdials are fat, you aren't gonna get better ones even if you RL and ask for a new one.

^ this, there are probably more variations over the years but the shift to silver subdials came with chromalight in 2013

Agreed, nowhere near as noticeable on the wrist as a close up photo. If you want the black dial this is by far the best option currently (from my limited knowledge but I’ve been reading everything). There’s always a reason not to pull the trigger when we ignore the 20 reasons why we should pull the trigger….. Good luck

I agree with you. The gen 116520 black dial is my favourite (by far) between the two choices; even if the ceramic bezel ruined (for me) a bit its aesthetical balance, still remains my bread and butter. Until this CF came out I always had problems with the costs implied in a Daytona built. Now, with this on the market, I was so happy.
But the members on the forum are so competent (sometimes so picky) that can point at something that for me wasn't even noticeable: after having followed the entirety of this thread, I must admit that now, unfortunately, I can't disregard the subdials thickness. I tend progressively to consider the white one, just because in every black one's QC pics that I look, my eye immediately falls on the subdials.

I'll try, as a "mental diet", to overlook most of the very useful infos that I gathered here. Just in order to enjoy again its beauty as I used to do few weeks ago. Because, I completely agree with you mate, overall it commands a really impressive presence.

I have a V4 Noob. And just from looking at the photos of the black dial CF the sub dials look noticeably fat. Only Daytona or Rep enthusiasts would notice. Still a sexy looking watch!

What will the gen xtal improve as compared to the CF?
