Gen vs Rep crystals today

Is the difference between a rep and gen crystal noticeable compared to today's crystals? Everyone says the giveaway is a lack of a blackhole effect but I'm not sure how noticeable that is as I've never seen a gen in person. Thoughts?

In my opinion it is worth it. Not only because of the blackhole effect, the clarity and ar are also better. The crystal is one of the things I always change first.

Some rep crystals are quite good. Like the crystal of the vsf126610

But some rep crystals are trash, like gmf

There's an improvement to the GMF 116610's glass and now it looks good on the V2.

In any case, the gen crystal is always above, even above VSF which is already history.

Even if the vsf crystal is better than the other rep crystals, I installed a gen crystal also in a vsf sub..

No need to change to gen xtals if you have a vsf. But for the rest it would be the first immediate improvement and the less costly as well. Cheers!

Well worth changing on a VSF as it helps the clarity and gets rid of the horrid distortion that the VSF has in the cyclops, when looked at from either a slight side or vertical angle.

Gen Crystal will meet the bezel flush and get rid of the gap that can be seen in your picture. Also the clarity is another level, as is the cyclops.
There is a major visual difference with gen, I’ve changed to gen Crystal on my CF.

Your question is actually rather immaterial to you as you acknowledge you have never even seen a genuine Rolex. Given that, is being called out for the rep crystal seriously your biggest concern about wearing a Rolex ? For the record, gen is gen and if you can afford to change the crystal to gen, VSF or otherwise, why wouldn't you ?

I'd always get a gen crystal on a Sub rep, if it's a keeper.

Most rep crystals are garbage. This becomes obvious when you compare it with a Swiss one. They need to be grown in an environment so clean that it would make an operating theatre look filthy - the slightest contamination will lead to a loss in clarity.

Don’t know where your getting your parts from, but I didn’t pay anywhere near that for a 116613 Crystal and it was fitted free of charge as part of a service, so yes, for me it was worth every penny.

Well, that's because a 116613 crystal is not a 126610 crystal lol

A 116xxx xrystal goes for around 300-350 euros, 100 less than a 126xxx, but still a lot, in proportion to the cost of the rep
