Hello

I have an IWC 3777-06 with the a8750 chrono movement that stopped ticking after almost 2 years of light wear.

I have read that this movement isn’t very reliable and most watch smiths don’t bother servicing it due to lack of parts.

I have a rep friendly watch smith who I’ve has serviced my reps before for $200 with great results.

He is quoting me $350 for this a7750 service. He said he can also swap it for a gen ETA and charge me 250.... I’m just wondering if it’s even worth it at this point. I can get a brand new rep for $300

Worth it IMO. A new rep will have the same reliability but the gen movement can last longer. You can also get the Sellita SW500 which is a drop-in replacement.

My vote is for the gen ETA, that is my plan for a heart transplant for my favorite reps. You get the same movement Rolex puts in the Tudor line. A rep with a bad movement is worth almost nothing, a rep with a gen ETA is a great watch.

Gen ETA is the best bet. My watch smith did a swap for me(i purchased a refurbished eta 7750 for $299) for 120$ for my hublot oceanographic 4000. He wNted to charge me 600 for servicing the a7750. Is the $250 for both the swap and movement? If so its a bargain!

If you like the watch and want to keep it drop in the eta or service it. Both are good options. The a7750 is a good movement too, $350 isnt a bad price for a 7750 service. If its time for something new flip it. It comes down to funds and wants.

The watchsmith is saying my replica a7750 is actually pretty nice and that if properly serviced, the movement would be as reliable as gen. Not sure if I believe that but this guy is pretty well known in the community so he’s no quack.

I can’t find a reasonable price for a gen a7750, anyone have suggestions? I checked eBay and random websites on google shopping.. all are about $7-900

You could always swap in the gen eta and sell the a7750 for parts. On the bay I just found a Valjoux 7750 (gen swiss eta) for 290+ shipping. Try searching for Valijoux, you should find a few for under $300.
