Not so bizarre, as I already said it, there's what's written in the text, and how it's effectively enforced.

What differentiates a professional lawyer from an Internet specialist in reading stuff ?

Exactly that ! Laws are interpreted, adapted to the situation and enforced by practice and "coutume" in pretty much every country, that's how you adapt a general case to specific case.

Reps are legal in Norway : try to cross the border and show the agent your 45-watch box full of pricey gens : you'll get dinged !
Reps are illegal in France : try to cross the border and show the agent your 3 watches travel box : you'll pass

And then there's all the in between situations

As you come from Norway I'll share one of my own experience about customs ...
True story !!!

I live in France.
Last time I went to Oslo (to visit my son) I flew with Norwegian airlines from Geneva.
On my way back to France I made a stop in Italy to meet an old friend of mine in Rome.
Then back to France through Paris and back home.
So I had custom checks at :
- Geneva airport (Switzerland)
- Gardermoen aiport (Norway)
- Fiumicino airport (Italy)
- CDG airport (France)
I had my white Explorer II on my wrist and my B&R 03-92 diver in my luggage.
My wife had her modded DJ with pink sunburst dial and engine turned bezel on white gold jubilee (not the less noticeable of DJs) on her wrist.
And ... not even the slightest problem with customs.

Next time I'll tell you about crossing customs in Paris/Moscow/Hanoi/Saigon/Shanghaï/Hong-Kong/Paris ... all in a 3 weeks trip ... including an argument with a custom lady in Shanghaï about the Ken Onion Kershaw knife I had in my wallet (she wanted to steal it but I found a way to keep it with me).

So just relax and wear what you want.
But if you can't relax ... wear a Seiko.

Thanks a lot!!
Where in Norway does your son study?
I think I'm going to wear my DJ 41 then :D

You're welcome
My son doesn't study since a long time ... he's 35 now ;) O&G engineer in Fornebu since 2009 and my 2 grandchildren speak Nynorsk :p

BTW ... there's so many people wearing DJs (Rolex or else) that nobody will even notice that you wear a watch

Good lord above what happened to RWI that a thread like this survives without the op getting roasted AF.

I didn’t even mention the frequent quadruple posts this kid made.

I was in Denmark, Poland, Spain, Italy, South Korea, China etc. With reps on my arm and in my suitcase and nobody freakin cared about them.

Yeez....

I’ve been to Italy. You’re more likely to get robbed or scammed than to be stopped by the law for your rep. I’m my time in Florence I saw a guy lose a briefcase and another lose a camera right in the Piazza of the cathedral. The law isn’t where I’d focus my concern.

Wear the watch and don’t worry about it..in all of the years I have been going to Sicily and Italy, I’ve worn gens and reps with no issue at all....no one will ever notice your watch unless they will say they like it (which happens never anyway)...l’ve worm fake and gen vintage Rolex and Omega with no one batting an eye at me for years. I have heard that Naples can be rough, but don’t have any personal experience.

Just wear what you wear and don’t worry about it. With that said, I wouldn’t bring a roll of 10 watches, which of gen would cost $500k through customs...you are just asking for trouble!!

Good luck and enjoy italy!’

I'm off to Italy in a few weeks. I'll be wearing my rep when out there.
honestly can't say I've ever heard of this type of thing. How would someone even tell it was a rep with stopping you, and then prove you even knew it was a rep.
honestly wouldn't stress about it.

Read the context of that thread though. That's people who ask me the question that I work with or have got in conversation with.

randoms in the street never just walk up to me and say, here let me look at that watch.

All metropolitan legend
I’m Italian I live in one of the biggest city of Italy and travel cross all the country wearing both gen or replica Watches and never had problem.
Milan, Rome or Naples are not more dangerous than New York , London or other big city in the world

So enjoy your time in Italy is a wonderful place

I visit Italy frequently, my favourite country to visit for numerous reasons. Obviously there’s certain places you’d be ill advised to have anything expensive on show, just like certain parts of any country, but security at the airport is never an issue. I live in France most of the time, no one really notices what watch I’m wearing, or even cares for more than a few secs. Can’t imagine border security studying a watch, they’ve plenty else to look out for. I work in the UK, no issues traveling back and forth with a rep. (Even though they took a tub of peanut butter I’d forgotten was in my carry on the other day!)

Though I will say one thing.... I’m half Norwegian, and I know this, when you’re worried about something, best remove the cause of worry, less it festers, ‘cause it does.
Just wear your rep in Norway, and be happy about it, leave it there, you’ll enjoy wonderful Italy way more, end of ;)

Wear the reps! Fuckin Napolitan’s are going to cut your wrist off for it anyhow!

I've gotten burned over Cheryl Tiegs,
Blown up for Raquel Welch.
But when I wind up in the hay it's only hay, Hey Hey

I don't know who u are and where u are from. I am napolitan and i wear my reps and Gen watches. I still have 2 hands, 5 five fingers per hand and 2 foot and nobody tried to steal my wachtes.
