Jim,
You're right. I'm older than dirt. And more than two months have passed since I ordered the watch, which was supposedly "available". But I think I unknowingly made a mistake by being unaware that I had a choice of shipping methods, if there was one offered. I just O.K.ed and payed whatever the default shipping choice was. I guess that's how I learn. The previous rep I bought was custom assembled by one of our RWI TDs in California, so the foreign shipping issue did not come up.
Yes, I'm acutely aware of the nature of the trade and the fact that most of these are one and two-man operations. Which is why I get jumpy if something seems to not be going smoothly.
I don't know how many members are aware of the China tie-in with the U.S. Postal System, but it's fascinating. I spent a number of years as an Asia specialist, working for the U.S. Government in the Far East, and we sometimes depended upon this channel, and/or the U.S. military APO postal system, which also functions in tandem with the USPS. Somewhere out in the South Pacific is a tiny U.S. controlled island (I forgot the name) with a U.S. post office. The Navy probably administers it. It must get an avalanche of business. All sorts of foreign places are feeding packages and mail into it. The island is probably sinking slowly. The mail is then sent to the next U.S. sorting center by air or surface. So apparently, China sellers have the American hardware and software to generate labels and new tracking numbers for our rep watch packages. But it's a mystery to me how a parcel gets from Point A to that island post office. I don't even want to know. But so far, it has taken six days and counting. I imagine the trained dolphins have to take a rest break somewhere in mid-ocean. It may be a union rule.
Anyway, I guess the thing will eventually show up. Then all I have to worry about is when they come up with the next amazing incredible rep to top this SA4130 Daytona. i don't doubt that they are up to it.
I'm enjoying the input and comments from all of you on this; nice to know that my fascination with these reps is "perfectly normal".
