A great collection Nivka – and hardly humble. Quick noob question (apologies if it causes more seasoned members to roll their eyes), but when you say you sanded the cyclops off your 1680, did you er, sand it off??! I've seen tutorials that advocate a bit of heat to loosen glued items, but mine 'appears' to be part of the plexi. Just thought I'd check in with a more seasoned modder before consigning a rep to the bin through brute force and ignorance! Thnx.

Nice one, I am very keen to get the aquanaut. Have you considered upgrading yours to zf or knf ??

Thanks Reed. I literally sanded it off. You can use heat to remove the cyclops off a sapphire crystal, but older crystals like the 1680 are plastic so heat will melt the whole thing. I started with really coarse sandpaper and worked my way down to a very fine grit before polishing with a cloth and toothpaste. All done by hand and took about 30 mins.

IMO the jury is still out as to whether those are upgrades! I think I’ll wait for the v6f

Got my franken back from Tickleshoes , who is a consumate professional and bent over backwards to make sure the watch was perfect. The jewel keeping the date wheel in place was loose, so he fixed that without charge (as well as cleaning the case and pressure testing the watch). 10/10 would recommend his services

Final specs are: ARF 116234 base, gen dial, gen datewheel, gen crystal, serviced and pressure tested to 5atm.

My perceptions and consideration of watches are changing. When I joined RWI I looked for watches I liked to see if they’d been repoed.

After I realised that didn’t work , I looked at watches that were repoed well and considered if I want to buy them.

More recently I think of my dream collection: ceramic sub LN, nautilus 5711, 16613LB, aquanaut 5167, sub 1680, daydate 18238, moonwatch 3572.50, 36mm Datejust , and work towards those.

Ive got a 116610ln and a franken 116234. I think my next gen will be the hesalite sandwich moonwatch for~sud5500. I have the pf5711 and the v6 aquanaut, which are both great but light years from genuine, but cost and waiting list preclude me from anything better. Similarly the daydate is hard to rep because of the gold. Similarly, the 16613LB costs thousands to have a decent rep, at which point I’d prefer to get a gen moonwatch.

Beyond that I’m stuck. Do I franken a nautilus, aquanaut, attempt a bluesy or save up for my next gen?. Or do I buy watches that are well repoed and I think I would like such as the Frank muller casablanca, zf 3714, iwc big pilot, explorer 214270, Cartier santos, noob 116519LN when they rep it?

Its an expensive hobby!

My vote goes for 11613 LB. I believe you can score a decent Franken with gen dial, crystal, insertl, DW for under 2k. It's bloody sensational watch however does get quite bit of attention. More so than the hulk .

The only issue then is the bracelet, I believe there are none that replicate the gold Color well enough so the options are limited.

Second option would be for the daytona 116519LN. You must have a daytona in your collection. It's a must have . Not sure if you seen the gen or even the arf reps, they are just amazing and I am sure fit in terms of size will suit your taste.

Explorer 1 is also repped quite nicely, I had one on pre-order for a month and eventually got fed up of waiting so didn't get it in the end. But it's nice simple elegant piece.

With reference to Franken pateks I don't see the point with the exception of the DW and usual dial imperfections. Sourcing parts will be a huge challenge and hence lead to frustration.
