Thoughts on Bund straps for vintage 6263

What are peoples thoughts on bund straps.

I thought I'd try it out on my 6263 reverse panda built by the great Yodog.

It pays homage to the Paul Newman.

I'm experimenting on this one because I have a high end 6239 daytona being built by slay plus I ordered an alligator bund strap that's identical from Hodinkee to the one that sold at auction for a record price. (17M)

I'll post pics of that once completed.

The one pictured sits a bit funny on my wrist. I think they need to loosen up a bit, as I don't usually wear these types. Hope the Hodinkee fits better as it cost me 260USD.

I couldn't resist taking a look at the Hodinkee bund strap collection after reading this. They're all in the $160/170 range, which is crazy enough. It's like "Well, Paul Newman's loose association with anything increases its value by at least an order of 10, doesn't it?" Did they really slap another $100 on the one you bought?

I'll take your reject there to stick on my Slay 6239. £30 buys it yeah?

Yeah an extra $100 they did.

Or you can take it up a notch and pay a premium for a fellow to hand make you one that's identical to the PM.

Mental. Not you sir - I’m talking about the prices of these bits of leather. Until recently I was a total strap cheapskate - but thought I’d started to change when leather straps of, say, up to £120 began to not seem overly expensive. But this is on another level entirely…

Sadly, I’m not a fan of the croc or alligator look, so I think my Daytona is destined to wear something less authentic looking. I’ll just have to cope with the constant calling out over the obvious tell.

I dig straps. I’ll pay a pretty penny for something individual or exotic. Your Croc bund looks great and $260 is not too much for your top end build. Wear it in good health.

If I was to be super critical, the subdials on the gen are slightly larger in diameter.

Does anyone else notice that? Or is it just my eyes.

I think it is the different zoom level of the two pictures that makes the sub dial sizes looks different. The hour hand size and pointer size difference is what stands out to me.

But we are talking about the bund band here. That bund band may have been on the watch when it was sold, but I don’t think PN wore it. He used the watch for actual race timing, and pictures show a narrower bund that I think made it easier to use the pushers. Rock stars like Clapton, John Mayer, and Ed Sheehan have a wider bund, but they probably don't use the chrono. I prefer the narrower version look myself, but they all are good.

Yeah there were two different types of bund straps. The one that sold at auction was not the one Newman usually wore. He wore the straight one as you mentioned which is the one I preferred (as well) and purchased from Hodinkee.
