There it is, a correct CG finally on the 088. I am delighted, thank you themannier for this nicely polished part.

Now still have to correct the GMT movement and the seconds subdial missing circle pattern... LOL, I love this watch!

Thanks for sharing, mrsullivan !
I do not quite understand, in the first photo on the watch is the CG, like, that came with the watch, and next to it, a new one?
It's the picture before changing the wrong brushed one, mounted on the 088, to the new mirror polished one.

I'm bad ... For some reason I thought that he had polished the original VSF CG, and looking at the photo I could not understand how. I realized that he put his own. Yes, of course it looks great now. As you can clearly see in this photo, they differ not only in finish, but also in shape. It seems your 088 is on the right track!

The person is mentioned in the post you quoted. It's probably better to ask him directly. Good luck.

If you had the choice, would you take the VSF or the HFac?

Hi all

Long time without doing a review but I think this VSF release deserves a study and a few words.

From the point of view of quality of manufacture and finish, the watch is irreproachable and looks fantastic.
But from the point of view of a good and serious modern replica, I think the results leave a lot to be desired. The downside is that many of them could have been avoided, just with a little care and attention in the development of the project by the manufacturer VSF

It is inadmissible, in the manufacture of current good replicas, to allow failures such as an incorrect CG, not only in shape but in finish, an incorrect surface finish subdial, a date cyclops with “frozen halo” or a bad choice of the movement, allowing an incorrect position of the Balance Wheel and offering a GMT 12hrs function instead of the correct GMT 24hrs. That could have been avoided with a 7750-based movement like the gene does.
I consider these flaws more as a sloppiness of the manufacturer rather than an inability to obtain accuracy.

Summary of failures observed as indicated below:
  • Brushed CG instead of polished, with very sharp corners, gen corners are really rounded and soft. Gen has brushed only the lever.
  • CG is the modern Luminor CG, wich gen has from H series. Just the square hole for the crown looks a bit smaller than gen, because gen seems to have more space to pull out the crown. Besides, the gen corners are much rounder and, due to this reason ,the gen CG looks thinner and smaller. For this watch a current CG from a Luminor 44mm caseset, polished and with nicely rounded edges would have been enough.
  • Lug holes are placed higher, like it happens on KW/XF cases
  • 12 hrs GMT
  • “Frozen halo” on date cyclops
  • The second subdial @9 has no concentric circles like gen and it is a bit bigger
  • Dial layout is almost perfect, but the hour markers are a bit thicker and a bit greenish
  • "R"of PANERAI and LUMINOR is also wrong and there are some differences in "m" and "a" in Automatic inscription.
  • Nice but a bit inaccurate caseback
  • Inaccurate movement, gen is a OPVIII based on ETA 7750 with BW @7, the rep has a Clone P.9001 mvmt. with BW @7
  • As a little flaw, the clasp of the strap should be polished (no worries about that)
Many flaws to be a good super rep

ALE7575 well resumed, it's sad VSF failed with this classic when you can see how perfect (almost) are their others releases.

I could accept all the flaw but the 12h gmt and the CG shape is a no-no.

ALE7575 great summary and review!

One question if you don't mind.

Could you explain what you mean by "Frozen Halo" cyclops?

Thanks for the question.

It is important the explanation because we have not talked about this for a long time and many people do not remember the meaning or have never heard of it.

"Frozen halo" is a white circle at the contour of the cyclops lens of the date. Gen is clean and transparent, some replicas (as in this case) have a white halo that we call "frozen halo"

I hope is clear now
