BEWARE: ‘New’ VSF Panerai Stock

Guys,

A quick note all Paneristi interested in the ‘new’ stock of VSF pams that have hit the market.

I just got sent QCs and it was clear it was not a clone p9000 movement in there due to the way the date was being changed.

It might have just been this one watch, but considering all the hybrids that the Rolex guys have found, I doubt it.

Please make sure you know what you’re looking at, how your date changes and be sure to ask your TD for confirmation and a shot of the movement if necessary.

Hello!

Thank you for drawing everyone's attention to this problem.

It is quite certain that a long time ago, VSF had clones P.9000 and P.9001 that did not have GEN functions (they worked like 7750 for example), and the GMT hand had a 24 hour move.
The balance wheel is at the @ 7 o'clock position.

They then (it was about 2016-7 years) rather quickly switched to their final version of the clone, having gen functions, as we have learned to perceive today.
Until recently, I always included such cases in the statistical accuracy, because even m2m saw such a clock only a couple of times.

However, I imagine a beginner feeling who buys a VSF PANERAI with balance wheels at @ 7, but does not get GEN functions.
It is doubly annoying that this, as I understand it, can come even from TD.

In the end, I would recommend everyone to clarify how the date and time settings work (whether there is an independent hour hand or not), and, if possible, request a movt photo.
Including when selling m2m, it is not enough to say vsf. Always check, please, the version and how the setting works, otherwise it may be perceived as a cover-up.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the gen function: firstly, it's not convenient, and secondly, since you don't reset the second hand to "0", it's also hard to confuse this with gen. But I know, many people appreciate it, and for this they buy the VSF version, even if the model has a solid caseabck.

On my own behalf, I will add a couple of photos visualizing the external differences of the old VSF clone without GEN functions from the modern one, which we all expect to get when buying a VSF PANERAI:

In both photos below is a modern VSF P.9000 with GEN function, above is an old one without GEN function.

Amazing input Maestro.

I’m not technical so this is invaluable. I’ll keep everyone updated on how this develops.

You're welcome. This is an important question for anyone who is buying VSF PAMS from TD now.
I want to say a special thank JayBee0815 for the photos of his sample of the old P.9000 clone on his PAM382, which he showed, and who participate in this comparison.

Thanks for this important info Rupert Fripp . I have not ordered "new" VSFs on my own, but some friends of mine. And their Pams have the correct date setting function. So this seems to a problem with some special watches. I am curious to see, if other members have this problem too. Can you tell us, which model you ordered?

A Pam616 as a substitute for my destroyed 979.

I have a friend that is into Rolex’s and he was saying many of the ‘new’ Noob and VSFs that have been released have been hybrids.

Maybe this is the case for us Paneristi too.

The 616 is not readily available with every TD so maybe this is why. It seems everyone has the 984 and maybe a watch in such abundance might still have a clone movement inside.

That makes me feel better. You can read between the lines…

What was interesting was the USPS tracking number as it did not show when it left China, but did show arrival in the USA west coast. Looked like it was stuck in Los Angeles, California USPS facility for few days with nothing showing up for tracking, arrived un expectantly with a different USPS tracking number saying it was sent from Universal City California. Who knows why, may be Steve sends to a forwarding address in the USA west coast which in turn repackages the watch and sends under a new USPS tracking number.

I got a New batch 1616 from Toro, came with the clone movement, not pre-Clone or hybrid, works great (so far..)
Got a couple more on the way no reason to doubt these won't contain clone movements. I hope!

And have this new batch the fisheye effect on crystal? I read than some of the lasts pre-raid VSF came with the new correct crystal for Subs.

Thanks

That’s great! Sounds like bad luck on my part then!

I’ve asked for a picture of the movement from the watch I was sent as well as a new watch for QC.

Nothing back yet but interested to see what’s actually in this thing.

Its no worse that I remember it, could even be an improvement but there is still a slight distortion at an acute angle, that said, at the angle I tell the time, the AR/Crystal is fine!
