Perhaps it is not a good idea to buy from a seller that you are doubting.

Yes, of course, but the PR hand on the dial was not working.

Yes, and to my knowledge it was mostly fixed somewhere in the right half of the 72 hour range to give it a working appearance.

Makes no sense , if the watch is wound down and its not running how can you tell if the PR hand is working ?

Sorry, my comment about the glued PR hand not working refers to Alex1976 's comment. which clarified whether the rep was PAM423 at all, and in my answer, I automatically pointed out the main practical drawback of this REP.
This was not an explanation as to why I believe the watch in the photo above is gen.

And of course an accidental double post, so I don't want to answer Raddave 's question by repeating my previous answer.

Now specifically about them.
In general, the reps of this model were either of poor quality, they could be with 6497 and decorative plates, which are hard to miss, or generally cheap with an automatic SEAGULL but, on the other hand, a working PR on the dial. It makes no sense to mention them either.

If it was fashionable to confuse gen with something, so with the version from the SF factory.

For a start, of course, we can say formal: if the watch has documents, and the numbers on the watch correspond to the numbers in the documents, and the latter does not give rise to doubts about their authenticity (for this, of course, you should understand which set of documents should come with such a pam, and what does he look like).

Further, if we talk about the rep SF, then it has a clone of P.3000, which has a specific appearance that differs from the GEN, and from the simplest and fastest thing that can be done, it is not to look at the shape of the regulator (on the clone it is an overlay for a wider the regulator is not the correct shape), and of course check if there are enough screws to fasten the bridges, and if the screws from above are not symmetrical, you don't even have to remember how many and which gears there should be, looking out from under the bridge:

Of course, it is true that it is not easy to understand from the photo works PR or not, especially if the sample for verification is presumably not wound and is standing.
Although the factory can do any kind of nonsense, I have not been lucky enough to see an example where the PR hand is glued to "0", although everything is possible for me, still to come ...

Further, the standard procedure is to check the case number with the serial number of the model on the website to issue a warranty:

https://www.panerai.com/en/service/c...pam-guard.html

This does not solve all the problems at all, but SF models, in particular the PAM423, do not pass the test. Although many old NOOBs and HFs are going through.
This is a banal check for compliance with both the serial number of the case this model, And of course, the fact that this watch in the photo has the same R series, on the caseback, as the rep from sf, is of course confusing for the first time.

Finally, when viewed from the front, the SF 423, like many others, is distinguished by a rather specific and noticeably incorrect dial font, which in practice is usually easier to distinguish from GEN than other factories, due to its pinkish tint, instead of the more yellow-gold, which, by the way, also applies to hands.
I will add to this that if the difference in lighting does not allow you to compare the fonts, you can compare to their thickness.
I'll leave a couple of photos of the SF 423 font for your reference, just in case:
ja3H88.jpg
ja3K7K.jpg

As a result, even from quick gestures, speaking of the dial, and movt., We can say that the photo is TC GEN, at least for the most part.
Regarding the case, in addition to checking the numbers, you can also compare its form, which, of course, differs from the SF rep, although not so obvious, and for clarity, we need photos at right angles, but they are, in particular, gen lugs are thinner.
Finally, looking at the CG, you can see chamfers (rounding off all edges), this is almost never done by rep factories, and if it is done, then to a much lesser extent.

This is probably the content of the visual quick test.
Of course, when checking the watch, you need to check every part, from all sides, and if there are documents, then start with them.
But you are obliged to do the first yourself, and the second is definitely capable, but you do not pass a quick check, at least it says that this is a stock rep ...

So today we have learned:
1) KOT1917 is a treasure on this site and we should all send him gifts and praise.

You don’t have to linger around here long to discover this. Anyone who’s had panerai questions has known this for a while. There are many amazing members on this forum but those of us who have had questions realized that kot1917 is the guy to go to with those questions. Whether it is about Panerai in general or Panerai replicas, kot1917 has benefited this forum in a way that can not be measured. He is a wealth of knowledge like some users here, but what makes him so amazing is the way he so freely and willingly shares that knowledge.

One of the many reasons this forum is an amazing place.

So today we have learned:

2) Back away quickly if the seller starts to alter the terms of the deal. Great job, Casinoboy , you did the right thing!

So true. As I was reading this, my first thought was “the watch looks genuine but there is no guarantee that you’ll get this watch if you send the funds”. So many people worry about the watch in the pics when the issue you need to focus on is the seller. All the way.
