Will 45.5mm be too big for my wrist?

Hi,

Im looking to get PO in 45.5mm but I have concern that it will be too big for my wrist. My wrist is 18.2cm, little bit more than 7 inches. Do you think it will look too big?

Can someone that has similar wrist like me and PO in 45.5mm post a picture so I can see how it looks? Ty :)

It might be. Instead of the case diameter try to find the lug-to-lug distance. If that is larger than the width of your wrist then I think it might look too big.

I don't have a photo as I don't own the PO 45.5mm anymore, but to be honest, it was a bit too big for my 16.5cm wrist. I think on your 18.2cm it will look ok. On the other hand, I prefer big watches and like the loose on the wrist;)

It's not only the diameter, but also the lug-to-lug and the THICKNESS.
My wrist is 18,5 and Im very happy that I have swapped the 45,5 for the 42mm version. But hey, its always also a personal preference.
See picture of the 42 on my wrist below.

It also depends on the shape of your wrist.

everyone measures their wrist by the circumference. Mine is 18.5cm, but quite wide and flat.
There are other people with a larger wrist, but are more “rounded” so a watch can appear bigger on them compared to me.

Also take into account your overall size/height.

I am 6’3” (190cm) and 223lbs (100kg), which also makes watches look smaller overall.

Everything is personal preference.

But for me one crucial parameter is the total length from one lug tip to the other. Or from one center link to the other, if the center links of the metal bracelet are a little longer than the lugs. It is not really the diameter itself.

The total length from lug to lug or center link to center link, whatever it's longer, should be smaller (or at least not larger) than the overall width of your wrist. E. g. if the width of your wrist is 6 cm and the total length is smaller, it looks totally fine. If the total length is the same or even bigger then the the width of your wrist, it looks odd. At least to me.

And bear in mind, a metal bracelet always optically extends the case, and make it appear larger overall. Whereas on a strap, shall it be leather, nato or canvas, the same watch looks more compact.

On my point of view, if the watch wears to large, it cheapens the watch. Whereas the other way round, as someone already said, a 34 mm Vintage Omega on a 7 foot Bodybuilder looks the same odd.

So what is important?
1. lug to lug length
2. width of your wrist
3. and maybe also the shape of your wrist, is it more flat or round on the top where the watch sits.

Easiest way is to try it out and put yourself infront of a big mirror and see how cool it looks, or not.

This is my 6.75 inch wrist. Guess what the size of the watch is.

diameter 36 mm
lug-to-lug 44 mm
Center link to Center link 47.5 mm

45.5 UPO , wrist size is 17.5 cm, hand is a bit bigger so watch fits fine for me. Buy what feels good. I should wear a 42mm from wrist size,( didn't try 43.5mm), but 45.5 just felt better. I have a 2500 model, 8500 is also a bit thicker.

The size of your forearm matters too. I have 17.2 cm wrist and skinny arms in general and I cannot pull of 45.5. I went with 42mm PO (Pic) and it looks alright I think.

The PO 43,5 is perfect for my wrist.
Pls take note that the bezel diameter is not even 42mm.

And the bezel diameter of the PO42mm is only 40mm.

I just received my Planet Ocean Deep Black 45.5. I have small 16 - 16.5cm wrist and love the watch.
In today's big smart watch era a 45.5 all black Planet Ocean looks relatively normal even on a small wrist.
