Saint Louis MO .. Restaurants are closing left and right, they don't want gatherings of more than 50 people in one place, don't invade other people's space (6 ft) …. Everyone thinks the official lockdown is around the corner and we have had ONE reported case … People are very nervous and don't trust our government at all.

Don't worry chap Donald Trump is your President and you're doing " an absolutely tremendous job fighting the virus much better than any other country in the world " :D

I thought it might be interesting to hear from guys in different parts of the world and hear what is going on regarding the current COVID-19 Pandemic.

I live in Minnesota which, for those of you who don't know, is in the the north and middle of the USA. I live in the Twin Cities of Mineapolis & St Paul and am in a Suburb. So far here in my little suburb my daughters high school closed as of today and in our state the Governor has announced that all public schools will close as of Wednesday this week. So far restaurants and stores remain open, but it seems that one, by one everything is getting cancelled/ closed to comply with this social distancing idea. I get the sense that so far things are generally orderly, but at the same time I sense a low level sense of panic/ irrational behavior. A week ago the local Grocery store and Costco had basically everything in stock 24/7. Fast forward to last Friday & Costco had everything at the open, but were running out of things like Toilet Paper & Paper Towels within 15 minutes of open. Now today right at the open they had a list of "out of stock" items posted right at the front of the store which included both items listed above + about a dozen other items. I don't recall what they were, but it included rice, hand sanitizer, wipes, some soaps etc.

So far most of the entertainment venues remain open. I would include things like movie theaters, Restaurants, & Bars, but It feels like that is about to change. One of the local card room and Casinos just announced they are closing for an indefinite time starting today at noon (about 45 minutes from now) It feels like we are in for at least a month of life that feels very different than what we are used to.

What is going on in your neck of the woods?

Carver County here and the governor has announced to close all restaurants and bars.

What's with the run on tp? I got in an argument with some dude who tried to buy 32 rolls of Scott tp the other day.

I'm in Boston and 5 days ago, everything... For the most part was normal. Yeah things were getting closer but everything was open and everyone was doing their normal thing. Work, play, school. Everything was on as usual.

And on Tuesday MIT closed and the first (well not the first but the threat was now real) viruses were confirmed and businesses and govt agencies wwere making contignecies just in case they had to close but most people were skeptical this would happen.

The next day (I was at UMass at the time) and they came through and shut everything down and like pushed everyone off campus. Now the city is like a ghost town here.

You're not necessarily a direct target because of your age, but if you smoke (tobacco), or have a weakened immune system due to health problems then yes, that would increase the risk for you.

It's basically a flu virus, it's transmitted in the same way. By being in close contact with someone who's infected - if they sneeze or cough near you then you breath in what they sneezed out. Also by direct contact - shake hands with someone who's infected, then 10 minutes later scratch your nose/mouth and you'll almost certainly be infected too.

Avoid crowded places, avoid putting your hands on or near your face if you're outside, away from home, carry hand sanitizer with you when outside, you can wear an FFP2 mask if you like. If you observe basic hygiene - wash your hands as often as possible with soapy water/sanitizer and avoid crowds/groups of people in confined spaces then you may not catch the virus, or you may indeed catch it no matter how careful you are, but your symptoms may be quite mild - it doesn't kill everybody, far from it.
I heard in an interview with Dr Michael Osterholm that in China, males who smoke over the age of 60 had high mortality rate (near 20%). While 35 year old healthy women were
Not very encouraging for smokers.

I am in suburbs of Boston. Pretty much the same situation as many others have mentioned. Glad that I focused my attention on getting toilet paper and disinfecting wipes in the last week.

Pleas continue to support your local businesses and restaurants (order take-out). For them it’s a matter of livelihood and their well being defines the economy which in turn impacts all of us. Stay healthy, peace!!

Fark. Calm down people. The US is not the epicentre. Buying inordinate amounts of essentials means your neighbours who need it can’t have it. Arming yourself means you’ll probably shoot someone.
How about putting your big boy (or girl) pants on and looking out for your neighbour.
Shit I’d hate to see how people handled a big conscription war or something these days.

It has been relatively safe here in Taiwan, as the gov was quick on protocols. Face masks are readily available through the system put in place, even though I criticized the policy to ban export on face masks..but I guess it's clearly working.

Here in Nebraska, some lady was the first communal spread case so it was a pretty big deal as being in the sticks not a lot of people thought it would get bad. However, she literally went to every Wal-Mart and the two largest ncaa basketball games in NE so things are not hopeful. Governor said no more than groups of 50 to be in an area and the restaurants/bars are mainly takeout or closed dining rooms.

I saw two aboriginal woman not helping in disparaging the racial prejudices within Australia by having a full on slap-fight over the last packet of dunnie-rolls in a Coles Supermarket. Hair pulling, wild haymakers, kicking, screaming

People tried to help by pulling them apart. But it just made it into a bigger mess

People are even more mental than usual.

Sounds like you're smashing it, but good luck anyway going forward.

Your symptoms are really interesting though. The message I've been getting from the government/media is that the guaranteed symptoms (assuming you're not asymptomatic) are fever and dry cough, yet you have neither and have tested positive. That totally flies in the face of what I've been told and makes me wonder quite how many millions have actually got this virus already. In fact it makes me question if I've got it as I've had exactly the symptoms you describe, plus an inability to completely catch my breath, like I can't get the last 5% of my lungs full. But I've not even considered self isolating because guess what, you need a fever or dry cough to have covid19

I had respiratory problems and arms and legs aches about 4-5 weeks ago. I had contact with a Chinese business man who kept coughing, a regular at our hotel and we went out to eat together.

I never tested for nothing as I took it for a cough / little flu.

Looking back I think I might have had it. I'm a heavy smoker (no cigarettes, but about 2-3 joints in the evening after work). Shit was ridingith me for about 2 weeks.

Don't know if it was that,. It looking back I think it was lol

johnlogan no F’n way. Sorry to hear mate. What made you get tested?

I started experiencing the symptoms, very flu like. My medical insurance provided the opportunity. Samples was taken from my nose and throat. The nose testing was painful as the swab was shoved so far back almost hitting the parietal bone. Two days later I received a call that I was positive. Norway have since stopped testing as we are the hardest hit country per capita in Europe. I’m under a 14 days mandatory quarantine.
