Why does my watch scratch?

Why does the bracelet scratch?
It has the usual desk diving marks, but why?
Isn't wood softer than metal?

Just a newbie question, hopefully it isn't too stupid ????

Even a soft cloth can scratch your bracelet.

Any rough material can damage metals.
