Hello all, I've just received a DSSD thats in real nice condition. The things is though, as soon as the crown is unscrewed it goes into the date change position. I can't wind it at all. Even when its screwing down it doesn't start to wind.

Any ideas?

Sounds like it needs a slightly longer stem. The winding position is sitting inside the tube and can't be reached because the crown is starting to thread on the tube.

It should be looked at by someone capable of addressing this issue or any other keyless related problems that may be discovered.

^^ Stem cut too short, most likely, although a keyless issue is possible.

If you're asking that question you don't know what you're doing, so take it to a watchmaker who will either add a stem extender or replace the stem, depending on his stock.

That's untrue. I'm no watch maker but resetting the keyless works is easy enough on an 28** movement.
I'm currently waiting for my die to arrive from cousins so I can get the case back off. So till then I can't remove the stem to see if it's the same as a 28** series movement as I suspect it will be.
I asked so I could order one in if the stem extenders I have here don't work and I have to order one in, again, if I don't already have one.

So I'll ask again, does anyone know what stem this takes? Is it as I suspect a 2836/24 stem or something else?

What movement does your watch have?

1. 3135 with fake 3235 engraving
2. 2824/36 with fake 3235 engraving

If your answer is #2, an aftermarket or gen ETA stem will work

If your answer is #1, follow on question - which rep 3135 is it?

1. SA
2. SH
3. VR

If #1, you cannot get a replacement stem anywhere but a TD (won't happen) or another SA movement. It uses a proprietary stem

If #2 or 3, an aftermarket 3135 stem or gen 3135 stem will work.

Thanx for that, I opend it up last night to have a look at it, forgot to take pictures but its the same as these I've pulled off trusty time.
Its definitely not a re stamped 3135. So I guess its as I suspected, a 28×× "variant"

The crown was actually loose on the stem, to the extent that the hands wouldn't wind backwards! Tightened it back up and re fitted the stem. Wore it all day and I've just tried wind it again and for a couple of turns it was going from winding to changing the date.
I'm going to change the stem over the weekend so hopefully that will fix it.

Thank You :)

Well luckily I had a couple of gen 2836/24 stems in my box. Pulled the stem out of the watch, removed the crown and laid them side by side. Cut the new stem so it was two threads longer, refitted it and it works like a charm.
Happy Days ;)
